Margëlliç, Fier
Margëlliç is a small community of the Fier County, southern Albania. It is part of the municipality Patos. The settlement is close to the Margëlliç Castle and the ancient city of Byllis. History In the 7th century the Margëlliç Castle was built by the Byzantines in the village. In WW2 a battle took place between Albanian Partisans and Nazi Germany in the village. Lefter Talo was killed in this battle, defending Albania. Patos, Albania
Patos ( sq-definite, Patosi) is a town and a municipality in the County of Fier, Albania. The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Patos, Ruzhdie and Zharrëz, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Patos. The municipality's population is 18,227 as of the 2011 census, in a total area of 82.59 km2. It is the center of the oil industry in Albania, and is 7 kilometers southeast from the city of Fier. History The etymology of Patos is likely borrowed from Ancient Greek πάθος (Pathos). Fier County (; ), officially the County of Fier (), is a county in the Southern Region of the Republic of Albania. Margëlliç Castle
Margëlliç Castle () is a castle in the village of Margëlliç, Fier, Margëlliç near Patos, Albania, Patos, western Albania. It is a castle that dates from the 7th century AD and is found on top of a hill. The castle was part of the defence system of the ancient city of Byllis. The castle has also been the scene of a World War II battle between the Wehrmacht and National Liberation Movement (Albania), Albanian Partisans. Lefter Talo was killed in this battle defending Albania. History An ancient city existed on the pyramid-shaped hill, which provided a strategic location between the Myzeqe plain and the Gjanica valley. There were three construction periods. In the late Bronze and Iron Ages, the fortification consisted of a simple wall made of rubble stone and was around 2 m wide.
