Margo Kõlar
Margo Kõlar (born 2 October 1961 in Tartu) is an Estonian composer. In 2006 he finished his doctoral studies at Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. 1986-1993 he worked as a sound engineer at Estonian Radio. 1987-1993 he was a music director of Estonian State Puppet Theater. 1997-2001 he was a composition teacher at Heino Eller Tartu Music School. From 1999 he is a lecturer (since 2015 professor) and director of the electronic music studio of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. In 1996 he founded the vocal ensemble Heinavanker. Since 1987 he is member of the Estonian Composers' Union Estonian Composers' Union (abbreviation ECU; ) is an Estonian creative union which encompasses professional composers and musicologists in Estonia. Tartu
Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia after Tallinn. Tartu has a population of 97,759 (as of 2024). It is southeast of Tallinn and 245 kilometres (152 miles) northeast of Riga, Latvia. Estonian Academy Of Music And Theatre
The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (''Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia'') began as a mixed choir of the Estonia Society Musical Department (EMD) on the eve of World War I. The assembly of the Estonia Society created the Tallinn Higher Music School on November 17, 1918. The opening ceremony took place on September 28, 1919. In 1923 the educational institution was renamed the Tallinn Conservatoire. In 1938 the State Drama School was opened. In 1993 the school was renamed the Estonian Academy of Music. In 1995 the Drama Faculty was renamed the Higher Theatre School. Eesti Raadio (Estonian Radio, ER) was the public service radio broadcaster of Estonia that, at the time of closure, operated five national radio stations. It was closed in 2007 as a result of a merger with Eesti Televisioon (Estonian Television, ETV) to form the Estonian Public Broadcasting service, or Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR). Estonian Theatre for Young Audiences, formerly ''Estonian State Puppet Theatre, Estonian Puppet and Youth Theatre and NUKU'') is an Estonian theatre located in Tallinn. Estonian Composers' Union (abbreviation ECU; ) is an Estonian creative union which encompasses professional composers and musicologists in Estonia. The chairman of ECU is Märt-Matis Lill. Since 2005, ECU is a member of the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM). As of 2021, ECU has 120 members.
