Margarita López Maya
Margarita López Maya is a Venezuelan historian who is a retired professor at the Central University of Venezuela. She is known for her work on Venezuelan history, especially with respect to Hugo Chávez. Early life and education López Maya was born in New York on June 6, 1951. She moved to Venezuela when she was six. Lopez Maya has an undergraduate degree (1981) and a Ph.D. (1995) from Universidad Central de Venezuela. Career López Maya was on the academic staff of the Central University of Venezuela from 1982 until her retirement in 2010. She served as editor of the journal ''Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales'' from 2000 until 2004. Hugo Chávez
Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (; ; 28 July 1954 – 5 March 2013) was a Venezuelan politician, Bolivarian Revolution, revolutionary, and Officer (armed forces), military officer who served as the 52nd president of Venezuela from 1999 until Death of Hugo Chávez, his death in 2013, except for 2002 Venezuelan coup d'état attempt, a brief period of forty-seven hours in 2002. Chávez was also leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when it merged with several other parties to form the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which he led until 2012. Born into a middle-class family in Sabaneta, Barinas, Chávez became a career military officer. 2013 Venezuelan Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Venezuela on 14 April 2013 following the Death and state funeral of Hugo Chávez, death of List of Presidents of Venezuela, President Hugo Chávez on 5 March 2013. Nicolás Maduro—who had assumed the role of acting president since Chávez's death—was declared winner with a narrow victory over his opponent Henrique Capriles, the Governor of Miranda (state), Miranda. Capriles had run in 2012 Venezuelan presidential election, the previous election less than a year before, losing to Chávez by an 11-point margin. This time the margin of victory was much smaller (being 1.49%), and thus became the closest presidential election of the country since the 1968 Venezuelan general election, 1968 election.
