Maren Lundby
Maren Lundby (born 7 September 1994) is a retired Norwegian ski jumper. She is one of the most successful ski jumpers in the history of the sport, having won three consecutive World Cup overall titles (an all-time record shared with Adam Małysz), thirty individual World Cup competitions, and gold medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2019 and 2021 World Championships. Lundby is also known as an advocate for gender equality in the sport. Because of her efforts, women are now allowed to jump on the large hill during the World Championships. Ski jumping career Lundby represents the Kolbu KK ski club. She made her debut in the Continental Cup, the highest level in women's ski jumping at the time, on 12 August 2007 with a 56th place in Bischofsgruen. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021
The 42nd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were held from 24 February to 7 March 2021 in Oberstdorf, Germany. It was the third time that the World Championships have been held in Oberstdorf, having previously hosted the event in 1987 and 2005. Russia doping ban On 9 December 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned Russia from all international sport for a period of four years, after the Russian government was found to have tampered with laboratory data that it provided to WADA in January 2019 as a condition of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency being reinstated. As a result of the ban, WADA plans to allow individually cleared Russian athletes to take part in the 2021–2022 World Championships and 2022 Winter Olympics under a neutral banner, as instigated at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but they will not be permitted to compete in team sports. The FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships is an annual nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The Junior World Championships was started in 1977 and was first hosted in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland. The 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were held from 21 February to 5 March 2023 in Planica, Slovenia. Championships Slovenia hosted the Nordic World Championships for the first time. All competitions took place at the Planica Nordic Centre, located in the Planica monument valley. Host selection The World Championships were awarded at the 51st Fédération Internationale de Ski, FIS Congress, held between 13 and 19 May 2018 in Costa Navarino, Greece. Planica's bids to host the championships had been unsuccessful on three previous occasions. The detailed application had to be submitted by 1 September 2017.
