Mardie, Western Australia
Mardie Station is a pastoral lease and sheep then cattle station that was established in 1866 in the Pilbara region of Western Australia near the mouth of the Fortescue River. The leasee in 2012 was Fourseasons Corporation; Mardie is operating under the Crown Lease number CL453-1984 and has the Land Act number LA3114/1027. History The original pastoral lease was taken by Simpson and MacIntoch, who worked for the Denison Plains Pastoral Company. The company equipped the barque ''Warrier'' in Melbourne and had intended to sail to Roebuck Bay to settle in another area but following a succession of calms the ship had to land at Cossack when the stock started to die of dehydration. Upon landing the group decided to trek south west and eventually squatted at Mardie Springs. A pastoral lease, sometimes called a pastoral run, is an arrangement used in both Australia and New Zealand where government-owned Crown land is leased out to graziers for the purpose of livestock grazing on rangelands. They do not give all the rights that attach to freehold land: there are usually conditions which include a time period and the type of activity permitted. North West Australia
The North West, North West Coast, North Western Australia and North West Australia, are usually informal names for the northern regions of the State of Western Australia. Mesquite is a common name for several plants in the genus '' Prosopis'', which contains over 40 species of small leguminous trees. They are native to dry areas in the Americas. They have extremely long roots to seek water from very far under ground. As a legume, mesquites are one of the few sources of fixed nitrogen in the desert habitat. Wooleen Station
Wooleen Station is a pastoral lease that was previously operated as a sheep station and currently runs cattle. The station was established in 1886 in the Murchison region of Western Australia that is bisected by the Murchison River. The station is situated approximately north of Perth in the Shire of Murchison. The property lies just west of Boolardy Station, now the home of the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, which incorporates the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). History Wooleen was first selected in 1887, by James Sharpe and David McWhinney. In February 1890, a shepherd named Templeton and about 1,100 sheep died from dehydration in extremely hot weather. Edjudina
Edjudina Station is a pastoral lease within the Edjudina Land District of Western Australia, that operates as a sheep station. The station is approximately to the south of Laverton and north east of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields-Esperance region. The leasehold shares a boundary with Yundamindera Station. Edjudina Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd commenced operations in 1937, but closed down shortly after due to declining market conditions for gold. The traditional owners of the area are the Wongatha and Maduwongga peoples. The lease was established in 1892 by Watt Newland. It was one of the first pastoral leases in the goldfields; the property was stocked with sheep. Newland sold Edjudina in 1921, at which time it occupied an area of . Chirritta
Chirritta Station, most often referred to as Chirritta or Cherratta, is a pastoral lease operating as a sheep station in Western Australia. The property is situated approximately south of Roebourne and north east of Pannawonica in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A portion of the Maitland River runs through the property. The property was established by Donald Norman McLeod in 1872. He returned to Victoria in 1882 and purchased Yannarie Estate near Portland, and later returned to Western Australia, acquiring Minilya Station. In 1884 Chirritta was reportedly sold for £18,000. By 1888 the property was put up for auction on behalf of D.N. McLeod and Company; the property was stocked with 17,000 sheep along with about 200 head of cattle.
