Marcus Umbrius Primus (fl. Late 2nd century to early 3rd century AD) was a Roman senator who was appointed suffect consul around AD 185. Biography Umbrius Primus was a member of the ''gens Umbrii Primi'' which hailed from Compsa (known today as Conza della Campania). After serving as governor of Lycia et Pamphylia, he was appointed Suffect consul around AD 185 or 186. Marcus Nummius Umbrius Primus Senecio Albinus
Marcus Nummius Umbrius Primus Senecio Albinus (fl. late 2nd century to early 3rd century AD) was a Roman senator who was appointed consul in AD 206 with Lucius Fulvius Gavius Numisius Petronius Aemilianus as his colleague. Biography Senecio Albinus probably originally came from the town of Beneventum in Southern Italy, where, due to his building activities in the town, he was recognized as the ''civis patronus'' (or patron) of the town. The family also had estates in and around Brixia. It has been traditionally held that Senecio Albinus was the biological son of Nummius Albinus, a half brother of the Emperor Didius Julianus, who was probably condemned to death after his overthrow by Septimius Severus in 193. After the fall of the Roman Republic, the constitutional balance of power shifted from the Roman Senate to the Roman Emperor. A Roman governor was an official either elected or appointed to be the chief administrator of Roman law throughout one or more of the many Roman province, provinces constituting the Roman Empire. The generic term in Roman legal language was ''rector provinciae,'' regardless of the specific titles, which also reflects the province's intrinsic and strategic status, and corresponding differences in authority. Proconsul
A proconsul was an official of ancient Rome who acted on behalf of a Roman consul, consul. A proconsul was typically a former consul. The term is also used in recent history for officials with delegated authority. In the Roman Republic, military command, or ''imperium'', could be exercised constitutionally only by a consul. Only two consuls served at a time, each elected to a one-year term. They could not normally serve two terms in a row; if a military campaign was in progress at the end of a consul's term, the consul in command might have his command Prorogatio, prorogued, allowing him to continue in command. This custom allowed for continuity of command despite the high turnover of consuls. In the Roman Empire, proconsul was a title held by a civil governor and did not imply military command.
