Marcus Beresford, 1st Earl Of Tyrone
Marcus Beresford, 1st Earl of Tyrone (16 July 1694 – 4 April 1763), known as Sir Marcus Beresford, 4th Baronet, until 1720 and subsequently as The Viscount Tyrone until 1746, was an Anglo-Irish peer and politician. Early life He was the only son of Sir Tristram Beresford, 3rd Baronet, and his wife Nichola Sophia Hamilton, youngest daughter of Hugh Hamilton, 1st Viscount of Glenawly and his second wife Susanna Balfour. In 1701 his father died and Beresford, aged only five, succeeded to the baronetcy. His guardian was The 3rd Viscount Dungannon (1669-1706). After Lord Dungannon's death in 1706, his widow (Beresford's maternal aunt), Arabella, Viscountess Dungannon, served as Beresford's guardian. Earl Of Tyrone
The Earl of Tyrone is a title created three times in the Peerage of Ireland, and once in the Spanish nobility. It was created for the final time in 1746 for Marcus Beresford, 1st Viscount Tyrone, son-in-law of the last de Poer earls. His son was created Marquess of Waterford in 1789, and the title has since been a subsidiary title of the Waterford title. It was first created as part of the Tudor attempt to establish a uniform social structure in Ireland by converting the Gaelic kings and chiefs into hereditary nobles of the Kingdom of Ireland. Under brehon law, clans were effectively independent, and chose their chiefs from the members of a bloodline – normally, but not always, a close relative of the previous chief; the clan as a whole generally had a voice in the chief's decisions. Thomas Cobbe
Thomas Cobbe (1733–1814), of the Newbridge Demesne in north County Dublin, was an Irish politician. Early life Cobbe was born in London in 1733 into the prominent Cobbe family. His mother, Dorothea Levinge, a daughter of Sir Richard Levinge, 1st Baronet, died during childbirth, and his father was the Most Reverend Charles Cobbe, Archbishop of Dublin. Before his parents marriage, his mother was the widow of Sir John Rawdon, of Moira, County Down, with whom she had two sons: John, later Earl of Moira, and Arthur Rawdon. From his parents marriage, he had an elder brother, Charles Cobbe, who died in 1750. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Career Cobbe represented Swords in the Parliament of Ireland from 1759 to 1768; and again from 1776 to 1783. Henry Flood
Henry Flood (1732 – 2 December 1791) was an Irish people, Irish politician, statesman and Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench for Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, and afterwards at Christ Church, Oxford, where he became proficient in the classics. He was a leading Irish politician, and a friend of Henry Grattan, the leader of the Irish Patriot Party. He became an object of public interest in 1770, when he was put on trial for murder, after killing a political rival in a duel. Henry was the son to Warden Flood. Edward Cary or Carey or Carye (died 1618) was an English courtier and Master of the Jewel Office for Elizabeth I and James VI and I. Family background He was a son of John Cary or Carey of Pleshey (died 1551) and Joyce, daughter of Edmund Denny, and widow of William Walsingham. His homes were at Berkhamsted Place and Aldenham, Hertfordshire. He bought Aldenham from Paul Stepney in 1588. Both houses have been demolished. In 1560, his mother bequeathed silver plate and a velvet bed tester to Edward's half-brother Francis Walsingham. His half-sister Mary Walsingham married Walter Mildmay. William Annesley, 1st Viscount Glerawly (1710 – 2 September 1770) was an Irish politician and noble. Early life Annesley was born in 1710. Theophilus Jones (1729–1811)
Theophilus Jones (1729? – 8 December 1811) was an Irish MP and administrator. He was born the eldest son of Walter Jones of Headfort and Olivia, the daughter and coheiress of the Hon. Chidley Coote of Coote Hall, County Roscommon. He served three periods as MP for County Leitrim in the Parliament of Ireland, sitting from 1761 to 1768, 1776 to 1783 and 1790 to 1800. He also sat for Coleraine (1769 to 1776) and Monaghan Borough (1783 to 1790). He was appointed secretary to Augustus Hervey, 3rd Earl of Bristol when the latter was Chief Secretary of Ireland in 1766, holding the post until 1799. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1767 and Collector of Excise at the Port of Dublin from 1767 to 1799. John de la Poer Beresford, PC, PC (Ire) (14 March 1738 – 5 November 1805) was an Anglo-Irish statesman. Background and education Beresford was a younger son of Sir Marcus Beresford, who, having married Catherine, sole heiress of James Power, 3rd Earl of Tyrone, was created Earl of Tyrone in 1746. Henry Bentinck, 1st Duke of Portland (17 March 1682 – 4 July 1726) was a British Army officer, Whig politician and colonial administrator who served as the governor of Jamaica from 1721 to 1726.
