Manuel Domínguez Sánchez
Manuel Domínguez Sánchez (21 December 1840, Madrid - 15 April 1906, Cuenca, Spain, Cuenca) was a Spanish painter and illustrator in the Academicism, Academic style. His early work shows some influence from the Nazarene movement, Nazarenes. Later, his style came to resemble that of Eduardo Rosales. Biography He studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where his primary instructor was Federico de Madrazo. He received a stipend to study at the Spanish Academy in Rome, and graduated from there in 1864. After that, he participated in numerous international exhibitions and received an award for his "Death of Seneca", which remains his best known painting. Upon returning to Spain, he became a Professor at the Real Academia, and was named an Academician there in 1904. He was very fond of giving his paintings long, explanatory names. Muros De Nalón
Muros de Nalón ( Asturian: ''Muros'') is a small coastal municipality in the Spanish province of Asturias, with an area of 8.09 square kilometers. It is bounded to the north by the Bay of Biscay, to the east by the river Nalón, to the south by Pravia and the west by Cudillero. The eucalyptus tree is the town tree and occupies great parts of the slopes down to the coast. Mariano Benlliure
Mariano Benlliure y Gil (8 September 18629 November 1947) was a Spanish sculptor and medallist, who executed many public monuments and religious sculptures in Spain, working in a heroic realist style. Life and works He was born in the Lower Street of the Carmen neighborhood of Valencia. His earliest sculptures featured bullfighting themes, modeled in wax and cast in bronze. At the age of thirteen he showed a wax ''modello'' of a picador at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes, 1876. Pursuing the thought of becoming a painter, he went to Paris his expenses paid by his master, Francisco Domingo Marqués. A trip to Rome in 1879, revealing at first hand the sculptures of Michelangelo convinced him to be a sculptor. In 1887 he established himself permanently in Madrid, where in that year's Exposición Nacional his portrait sculpture of the painter Ribera won him a first-prize. Alfonso XII (Alfonso Francisco de Asís Fernando Pío Juan María de la Concepción Gregorio Pelayo; 28 November 185725 November 1885), also known as El Pacificador or the Peacemaker, was King of Spain from 29 December 1874 to his death in 1885. The Exposition Universelle of 1889 () was a world's fair held in Paris, France, from 5 May to 31 October 1889. It was the fourth of eight expositions held in the city between 1855 and 1937. It attracted more than thirty-two million visitors. The most famous structure created for the Exposition, and still remaining, is the Eiffel Tower.
