Miranda Alexis Freeman (born March 23, 1995) is an American professional association football, soccer player who plays as a Defender (association football), defender for Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). College career Freeman played for University of Southern California, USC from 2013 to 2016, and she was part of team that won the 2016 NCAA National Championship. Club career Freeman was drafted by Sky Blue FC with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. She appeared in 21 games in the 2017 season. Freeman returned to Sky Blue FC for the 2018 National Women's Soccer League season, 2018 season, where she once again appeared in 21 games for the team. Freeman tore the achilles tendon in her right ankle during preseason training ahead of the 2019 National Women's Soccer League season, 2019 NWSL season, ruling her out for the season. Gotham Football Club is an American professional Association football, soccer team based in the New York metropolitan area that competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Founded in 2006 as Jersey Sky Blue, the team was known as Sky Blue FC from 2008 until 2020, and as NJ/NY Gotham FC from 2021 to 2024. The 2020 Sky Blue FC season was the team's 11th season as a professional women's soccer team, and their eighth season as a member of the National Women's Soccer League. The season was originally scheduled to begin on March 18, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the start date was delayed. Preseason matches were cancelled on March 12 and on April 4 it was announced that a moratorium on training would continue through May 5, 2020. The 2019 Sky Blue FC season was the team's tenth season as a professional women's soccer team. Sky Blue FC plays in the National Women's Soccer League, the top tier of women's soccer in the United States. Since the 2018 Sky Blue finished in last place and only won one game, 2019 offered opportunities for improvement. The off-season didn't get off to a promising start as two of the team's top draft picks, Hailie Mace (2nd overall pick) and Julia Ashley (6th overall pick) chose not to sign with the club. The National Women's Soccer League playoffs (or NWSL playoffs) are a single-elimination tournament among eight teams in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) of the United States.
