Mandarin Daily News
The ''Mandarin Daily News'' (; Gwoyeu Romatzyh: Gwoyeu Ryhbaw; Zhuyin ㄍㄨㄛˊ ㄩˇ ㄖˋ ㄅㄠˋ) is a traditional Chinese children's newspaper published daily in Taiwan. The main text of the articles is accompanied by Zhuyin (Bopomofo) phonetic script to aid identification of difficult characters. The project was founded on 25 October 1948. In 1949, led by Wu Zhihui, a promoter of the Mandarin movement in Taiwan, along with Chen Songping, Hu Shi, Fu Sinian, and other members of the Mandarin Promotion Committee of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan invited Taiwanese provincial figures such as Huang Chunqing, Du Congming, and Li Wanju to establish a board of directors in March 1949 to strengthen the operation of the newspaper. Hu Shih
Hu Shih ( zh, t=胡適; 17 December 189124 February 1962) was a Chinese academic, writer, and politician. Hu contributed to Chinese liberalism and language reform, and was a leading advocate for the use of written vernacular Chinese. He participated in the May Fourth Movement and China's New Culture Movement. He was a president of Peking University and Academia Sinica. Hu was the editor of the '' Free China Journal'', which was shut down for criticizing Chiang Kai-shek. In 1919, he also criticized Li Dazhao. Hu advocated that the world adopt Western-style democracy. Moreover, Hu criticized Sun Yat-sen's claim that people are incapable of self-rule. Chinese ( or ) is a group of languages spoken natively by the ethnic Han Chinese majority and many minority ethnic groups in China, as well as by various communities of the Chinese diaspora. Tu Tsung-ming
Tu Tsung-ming (, ) was a Taiwanese pharmacologist and educator and Taiwan's first Doctor of Medical Sciences (equivalent to Ph.D.). Early life and education Tu Tsung-ming was born in Tamsui in 1893. He entered the Medical school under Government-General of Taiwan in 1909. Since his physical test score on the entrance exam did not meet the standard, he would not be able to enter this school. However, he topped the exam, so the president of the school, Junzo Nagano(長野純蔵), decided to admit him as a special case. He was always at the top of his class, and became healthy through swimming, mountaineering and exercises. The movement that requested to overthrow China's Qing dynasty was rising in 1910, and he joined the under society Tongmenghui with his friends. Huang Chun-ming
Huang Chun-ming (; born 13 February 1935) is a Taiwanese literary figure and teacher. Huang writes mainly about the tragic and sometimes humorous lives of ordinary Taiwanese people, and many of his short stories have been turned into films, including ''The Sandwich Man'' (1983). Fu Ssu-nien
Fu Ssu-nien (; 26 March 1896 – 20 December 1950) was a Chinese historian, linguist, and writer. He was one of the leaders of the May Fourth Movement in 1919. He was also one of the creators of the Academia Sinica, and was named director of the Institute of History and Philology upon its founding in 1928. Early years Fu was born on 26 March 1896 in Shandong, immediately after the First Sino-Japanese War, a time when the traditional systems were being challenged and revolutions were about to happen. Mandarin Chinese
Mandarin ( ; zh, s=, t=, p=Guānhuà, l=Mandarin (bureaucrat), officials' speech) is the largest branch of the Sinitic languages.
