Manakacha Formation
The (Upper) Late Pennsylvanian (geology), Pennsylvanian Manakacha Formation is a cliff-former, cliff-forming, sandstone, red-orange geologic unit, formed from an addition of aeolian processes, eolian sand, added to marine transgression deposits, (siltstones, etc.), and found throughout sections of the Grand Canyon. It is one of the lower members of the Supai Group (member two of four major units), with the Supai Group found in other sections of Arizona, especially in the Verde Valley region, or as a basement unit below the Mogollon Rim, just eastwards or part of the basement Supai Group of the southwest & south Colorado Plateau. The Manakacha Formation was laid down (especially in the Grand Canyon). It consists of up to of calcareous sandstone and shaly mudstone. It represents a time when deposition of aeolian processes, aeolian sand became more widespread. Dinosaur National Monument is an American national monument located on the southeast flank of the Uinta Mountains on the border between Colorado and Utah at the confluence of the Green River (Colorado River tributary), Green and Yampa River, Yampa rivers. Conglomerate () is a sedimentary rock made up of rounded gravel-sized pieces of rock surrounded by finer-grained sediments (such as sand, silt, or clay). The larger fragments within conglomerate are called clasts, while the finer sediment surrounding the clasts is called the matrix. The clasts and matrix are typically cemented by calcium carbonate, iron oxide, silica, or hardened clay. Conglomerates form when rounded gravels deposited by water or glaciers become solidified and cemented by pressure over time. They can be found in sedimentary rock sequences of all ages but probably make up less than 1 percent by weight of all sedimentary rocks. The Pinkerton Trail Formation is a geologic formation that is found in the Four Corners region of the United States. It contains fossils characteristic of the Atokan and Desmoinesian Ages of the Pennsylvanian. Description The Pinkerton Trail Formation is the lowest member of the Hermosa Group, a group of geological formations deposited in the interior and margins of the Paradox basin during the Pennsylvanian. Paradox Formation
In geology, the Paradox Formation Is a Pennsylvanian age formation which consists of abundant evaporites with lesser interbedded shale, sandstone, and limestone. The evaporites are largely composed of gypsum, anhydrite, and halite. The formation is found mostly in the subsurface, but there are scattered exposures in anticlines in eastern Utah and western Colorado. These surface exposures occur in the Black Mesa, San Juan and Paradox Basins and the formation is found in the subsurface in southwestern Colorado, southeastern Utah, northeastern Arizona and northeastern New Mexico. The Lower Permian Esplanade Sandstone is a cliff-forming, resistant sandstone, dark red, geologic unit found in the Grand Canyon.
