Malkasten
Malkasten (English: "Paintbox") is a progressive German artists' association, founded in Düsseldorf in 1848, during the March Revolution. Since 1867, their headquarters have been in the Pempelfort district. History During the unrest in 1848, artists also began to take part in political discussions. In August of that year, the held an event called the "Fest der Deutschen Einheit" (Festival for German Unity). Many artists and sculptors associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule took part in its artistic design. On the night of the celebration, they decided to establish an artist's association which, a few days later, they named "Malkasten", at the suggestion of Karl Hübner. The Malkasten-Redoute was an annual masquerade ball for the Düsseldorf carnival period organized at the Malkasten in Düsseldorf. Schloss Jägerhof

Johann Peter Hasenclever
Johann Peter Hasenclever (18 May 1810, Remscheid - 16 December 1853, Düsseldorf) was a German genre painter, associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Life and work His father, also named Johann Peter Hasenclever (1784–1864), was a toolsmith; involved in the local iron trade. In 1825, he went away to school in Ronsdorf and moved into the home of his teacher, Johann Peter Fasbender, who recognized and encouraged his talent for drawing. When he was seventeen, he enrolled at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, under the direction of Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow, but left after only two years, when Schadow expressed serious doubts about his abilities. Karl Hübner
Karl Wilhelm Hübner (17 June 1814, Königsberg - 5 December 1879, Düsseldorf) was a German landscape and genre painter, in the Romantic style. Life and work His father was a construction worker. He initially studied art with the portrait painter, , in his hometown. Thanks to his support, Hübner was able to gain admission to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1837. His instructors there included Wilhelm von Schadow and Karl Ferdinand Sohn. Joseph Fay (6 August 1812, Cologne - 27 July 1875, Düsseldorf) was a German painter and illustrator; associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Life and work From 1833 to 1844, he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf; initially with Karl Ferdinand Sohn. Friedrich Wilhelm Hackländer, in later life von Hackländer (1 November 1816 – 6 July 1877), was a successful German author. Life Hackländer was born in Burtscheid, now part of the city of Aachen, Germany. He was orphaned at the age of 12 and brought up in impoverished circumstances by various relatives.
