Maimarktgelände
The Maimarktgelände (May Market Grounds) is an exhibition site located in Mannheim, Germany, which covers a surface of 210,000 m2. It hosts the annual Mannheim May Market as well as open-air concerts and other events. Starting in April each year, 47 exhibition halls with a surface of 42,000 m2 are developed on the apron of the site. With approximately 1,500 exhibitors and around 400,000 visitors annually, the Maimarktgelände is a major German regional exhibition. In 1989, the 12,500-capacity Maimarkthalle (7500 m2) was built as the first permanent exhibition hall, which is used all year round for concerts. The area has good transport connections because the Mannheim motorway interchange is nearby and the A 656 and the B 38a can be reached directly. The Mannheim Arena/Maimarkt stop on the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn is 1,000 m away. Mannheim May Market
The May Market () is the largest regional consumer exhibition of Germany, which always begins on last Saturday in April and lasts for eleven days. The traditionally last day is therefore called May Market Tuesday. It takes place at the Maimarktgelände in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg. History The May Market has a long history beginning in 1613 in Mannheim (when the city was only six years old) after John II, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken granted it privileges. The market was originally used for shopkeepers and cattle dealers. In the 18th century, the May Market was moved under the arcades of stores in the city center. In 1876, the side shows were separated from the May Market and shifted to the old show ground. In 1892, part of the May Market moved to the newly opened slaughterhouse. Maimarkt-Turnier Mannheim
The Maimarkt-Turnier Mannheim is an annual international horse show held during the Mannheim May Market, Mannheimer Maimarkt since 1964. The show jumping competitions take place in the ''MVV-Reitstadion'' and the dressage competitions take place in the ''MVV-Dressurstadion'' in Mannheim, Germany, belonging to the Maimarktgelände. The horse show is organised by the ''Reiter-Verein Mannheim e.V.'' The main show jumping competitions are usually designed as Concours de Saut International, CSI 3* and the main dressage competitions as CDI 4* (until 2017 CDI 3*).
