Magpul PDR
The Magpul PDR (Personal Defense Rifle) is a prototype bullpup-style 5.56×45mm NATO carbine unveiled by Magpul Industries in 2006. History Although halted in development as of 2011 it has garnered some attention, largely due to its "futuristic" appearance. Design The PDR consists of a gas-operated bullpup carbine intended to replace some submachine guns, M9 pistols and M4 carbines while still offering the rapid fire and range of an M4 carbine in an ultra compact firearm. The PDR is one of the few personal defense weapons designed to use a standard caliber to simplify the logistics. The method of operation is a short stroke gas piston. It is striker-fired, features an ambidextrous ejection system, and ambidextrous controls. A bullpup firearm is one with its firing grip located in front of the Chamber (firearms), breech of the weapon, instead of behind it. This creates a weapon with a shorter overall length for a given barrel length, and one that is often lighter, more compact, concealable, and more maneuverable than a conventionally configured firearm. Where it is desirable for troops to be issued a more compact weapon, the use of a bullpup configuration allows for barrel length to be retained, thus preserving muzzle velocity, range, and ballistic effectiveness. The bullpup concept was first tested militarily in 1901 with the British Thorneycroft carbine, but it was not until the Cold War that more successful designs and improvements led to wider adoption. Steyr TMP
The Steyr TMP () is a 9×19mm Parabellum caliber machine pistol manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher of Austria. Design The magazines come in 15 or 30 round detachable box types. A suppressor can also be fitted. Though originally intended to be used without a shoulder stock, an optional fixed stock was made available later. Variant SPP The Steyr SPP (Special Purpose Pistol) is a semi-automatic variant of the TMP. The TMP's barrel and barrel jacket lengths were increased slightly so there is a greater length of protruding jacket and barrel. The forward tactical pistol grip was also removed. The GA Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) is a select-fire sub-carbine made by the Philippine Government Arsenal. History 50 prototypes of the weapon underwent field testing and evaluation with Special Operations units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in June 2015. Bushmaster Arm Pistol
The Bushmaster Arm Pistol was a 5.56×45mm NATO firearm, categorizeable as either a long pistol (under the American legal definition of a pistol) or compact carbine rifle, produced by the Gwinn Firearms Company, and later Bushmaster Firearms Inc. The firearm was a new design, having a rotating bolt combined with a long stroke gas piston system similar to the AK-47 rifle. Some AR-15 parts were used in its construction and it used STANAG type magazines. Production ceased in 1988 for the pistol variant and 1991 for the rifle following Bushmaster's acquisition by the Quality Products Company the previous year; the company now known as Bushmaster is primarily known for making the more common AR-15 type rifles.
