Madison Township is one of the twelve townships of Vinton County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 census found 532 people in the township, 230 of whom lived in the village of Zaleski. Geography Located in the center of the county, it borders the following townships: * Brown Township: north * Knox Township: east * Vinton Township: south * Clinton Township: southwest corner * Elk Township: west * Swan Township: northwest corner It is one of only two county townships without a border on another county. State Route 278 (SR 278) is a north–south state highway located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. The southern terminus of SR 278 is at US 50 approximately east of McArthur. The highway's northern terminus is at the T-intersection it has with SR 595 nearly northwest of Nelsonville. Established in the early 1930s, SR 278 primarily connects rural communities in Vinton, Hocking, and Athens Counties. In Vinton County, it passes through and provides access to the Zaleski State Forest and Lake Hope State Park. US Route 50
U.S. Route 50 or U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) is a major east–west route of the U.S. Highway system, stretching from Interstate 80 (I-80) in West Sacramento, California, to Maryland Route 528 (MD 528) in Ocean City, Maryland, on the Atlantic Ocean. McArthur, Ohio
McArthur is a village in and the county seat of Vinton County, Ohio, United States. It is located southeast of Chillicothe. The population was 1,783 at the 2020 census. History McArthur was laid out and platted in 1815. It was originally called McArthurstown and was named for Duncan McArthur, an army general in the War of 1812. The oldest surviving building is the McArthur Hotel, which was built in 1839, and will be going under renovation in 2022.
