Mackay–Eungella Road
Mackay–Eungella Road is a continuous road route in the Mackay Region, Mackay region of Queensland, Australia. The entire route is signed as State Route 64. It is a state-controlled regional road (number 532). At the western end it becomes Eungella Dam Road. (see below) Route description The road commences at an intersection with the Peak Downs Highway (State Route 70) in Alexandra, Queensland, Alexandra. It runs north-west and then west, following the Pioneer River through to , passing the Pleystowe Sugar Mill. The land beside the road is primarily used to grow sugar cane. It continues west and south-west through more canefields, following the river to , where it passes exits to Marian–Hampden Road and Marian–Eton Road, both part of State Route 5, and another sugar mill. Peak Downs Highway
The Peak Downs Highway links the towns of Mackay, Queensland, Mackay and Clermont, Queensland, Clermont in the Australian state of Queensland. It represents the main link between Queensland's Whitsunday Islands, Whitsunday Coast and the Central West region of the state. The highway runs for a total length of , before joining the Gregory Highway (Highway A7, formerly Highway 55) south to Clermont, Queensland, Clermont, a total of . Mackay Railway
The Mackay Railway was a line situated in the Pioneer River valley in North Queensland, Australia. It opened in a series of sections between 1885 and 1911. It had three short branches, parts of which were initially built by the local government. It closed in sections between 1959 and circa 2007. It was also known as the Pioneer Valley Railway. History Mackay, about 1000 km north of Brisbane, is situated at the entrance of a fertile river valley, and was quickly developed for agriculture, especially sugar cane. Sugar mills had been constructed with private cane tramways, meaning each mill had a local monopoly. The Mackay railway was built to allow growers to ship their sugar cane to alternative buyers, ending the mill monopolies. Finch Hatton War Memorial
Finch Hatton War Memorial is a heritage-listed memorial at Anzac Parade, Finch Hatton, Mackay Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Melrose & Fenwick and built in 1921 by Melrose & Fenwick. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Finch Hatton War Memorial was erected on 19 November 1921, and it is possible that it may never have been officially unveiled. It was erected at a cost of which was paid for by public subscription. The stone memorial was designed and produced by Melrose and Fenwick of Mackay and honours the 16 local men who fell in the First World War. Later additions honour the 7 who fell in the Second World War. The erection of the memorial was made possible through the combined efforts of two towns, Finch Hatton and Netherdale. Teemburra Dam
Teemburra Dam was constructed in 1997 for town water storage and irrigation purposes. It is located approximately 50 km west of Mackay, Queensland. It has a surface area of 1,040 hectares, an average depth of 14.2 metres and holds 147,500 Ml. Fishing A ''Stocked Impoundment Permit'' is required to fish in the dam.

Kinchant Dam
Kinchant Dam is a dam in the locality of Kinchant Dam in the Mackay Region, Queensland, Australia. It created the reservoir Lake Kinchant (). It has a storage capacity of . Geography The dam is built on Sandy Creek to provide irrigation and town water. However most of the water in the lake does not come from Sandy Creek but is pumped from the Pioneer River at Mirani Weir into an channel into the lake. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 5 February 2010. History The Mount Martin cane lift is situated near the locality of the same name in a rural area west of the city of Mackay. Mackay is the regional centre of one of Queensland's main sugar cane growing areas. One of the top two sugar producing regions in the state, it produces about a third of the sugar in Queensland. Sugar cane is a major crop in Queensland; the state produces nearly all of the nation's sugar. The cane lifts formed part of the process of transporting bundled whole stalks of harvested sugar cane from the farms to the sugar mill. Lt Thomas Armstrong Memorial is a heritage-listed memorial at Victoria Street, Mirani, Mackay Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1918. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History This memorial is unusual in that it is dedicated to the memory of an individual soldier. It marks the death on 12 October 1917 of Lieutenant Thomas Acheson (Tom) Armstrong of the 33rd Battalion who was killed in action at the age of 26 at the First Battle of Passchendaele at Zonnebeke near Passchendaele, Flanders during the First World War. Prior to enlisting at the start of 1916, Armstrong was a medical student at the University of Sydney. Armstrong's family lived on a farm between Marian and Mirani. The memorial was erected behind the altar at St James Presbyterian Church (later Uniting Church) at Marian, a timber church located on Anzac Avenue near the Marian sugar mill. Bruce Highway
The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. Eungella National Park
Eungella National Park ( ; meaning "Land of the clouds") is a protected area in Queensland, Australia. It is on the Clarke Range at the end of the Pioneer Valley 80 km west of Mackay, and 858 km northwest of Brisbane. Eungella is noted for the national park which surrounds it. It is considered to be the longest continual stretch of sub-tropical rainforest in Australia. The original inhabitants are the Wirri people. The park is covered by dense rainforest and is known for its platypuses.
