Macaé River
The Macaé River is a river of Rio de Janeiro state in southeastern Brazil that flows into the Atlantic Ocean at the town of Macaé. The upper part of the Macaé River basin is protected by the Macaé de Cima Environmental Protection Area, created in 2001. The river basin also includes part of the União Biological Reserve, home to a population of endangered golden lion tamarin. Macaé
Macaé () is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, 180 km northeast of the state capital. It is the birthplace of the 13th president of Brazil, Washington Luís. The Macaé de Cima Environmental Protection Area () is a state-level environmental protection area in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It protects an area of Atlantic Forest in the Serra do Mar mountains. Location The Macaé de Cima Environmental Protection Area (APA) covers an area of . is in the southern part of the municipality of Nova Friburgo, and is in the north of the municipality of Casimiro de Abreu. União Biological Reserve ( ) is a strictly protected Biological reserve (Brazil), biological reserve in the state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Golden Lion Tamarin
The golden lion tamarin (''Leontopithecus rosalia''; ), less commonly known as the golden lion marmoset, is a small New World monkey of the family Callitrichidae. Endemic to the Atlantic coastal forests of Brazil, the golden lion tamarin is an endangered species. The geographic range is entirely within the state of Rio de Janeiro.
