MC2-Microïds
Microids (formerly Microïds) is a French video game developer and publisher based in Paris. Founded in 1985 by Elliot Grassiano, it attained early success with games published through Loriciel in France and other partners (including Activision and Broderbund) in international markets. Through expanding its staff and development teams, Microïds generated funds to expand from just development to publishing and distribution and opening international offices. The company merged with MC2 in 2003 to create MC2-Microïds, whereafter it acquired publishers Wanadoo Edition and Cryo Interactive. Grassiano left MC2-Microïds in 2005; under new management, MC2-Microïds was briefly renamed MC2 before returning to the old Microïds name. It was then acquired by Anuman Interactive in 2010, which itself was renamed Microïds (then simplified to Microids) in 2019. ''500cc Grand Prix'', one of the first French-made games, is a motorcycle racing game developed by Microïds and released in 1987 on multiple platforms, including the Amstrad CPC, Microsoft DOS, Commodore 64, and the Atari ST. The game included a multiplayer mode, considered by magazines to be the technology of the future. Gameplay The game provides a two-player split-screen mode and three levels of general difficulty. Players can choose between the training mode, a single Grand Prix, or the World Championship. During a race, the screen is split into two vertical halves showing the point of view of two racers. The Amstrad CPC (short for "Colour Personal Computer") is a series of 8-bit home computers produced by Amstrad between 1984 and 1990. It was designed to compete in the mid-1980s home computer market dominated by the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum; it successfully established itself primarily in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and the German-speaking parts of Europe, and also Canada. The Thomson TO7, also called ''Thomson 9000'' is a home computer introduced by Thomson computers, Thomson SA in November 1982, with an original retail price of 3750 French franc, FF. By 1983 over 40000 units were produced. About 84 games were released for the TO7. The TO7 is built around a 1 Hertz, MHz Motorola 6809 processor. Thomson MO5
The Thomson MO5 is a home computer introduced in France in June 1984 to compete against systems such as the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. It had a release price of 2390 FF. At the same time, Thomson also released the up-market Thomson TO7/70 machine. The MO5 was not sold in vast quantities outside France and was largely discontinued in favour of the improved Thomson MO6 in 1986.
