M2 (İzmir Metro)
The M2 line, also referred as Üçyol–Çamlıkule Line () is a planned ATO rapid transit line in İzmir, Turkey. The line has a total length of and would begin at Üçyol and run southeast into Buca. When completed, the line will become the seventh driverless metro line in Turkey, and the first in Izmir, after the M5, M7, M8, M11, M12 and M14 lines in Istanbul. Construction started in 14 February 2022 and the line is expected to enter service in 2027. It will cost $765 million, and the yearly expected profit from operation is $45 million. History Background Buca is the most populous district in Izmir and is one of the city's oldest settlements. Despite this, the only form of public transportation (aside from buses) is the Southern Line of the İZBAN commuter rail system, which runs along the far west side of the district. Üçyol (İzmir Metro)
Üçyol is an underground station on the M1 Line of the İzmir Metro in Konak. Located beneath İnönü Avenue, just west of Üçyol Square, it is one of the ten original stations of the metro system, opened on 22 May 2000. From 2000 to the 2012, Üçyol was the western terminus of the line. On 29 December 2012, the line was extended two stations westward to Hatay. Üçyol is planned to be the western terminus of the Üçyol—Çamlıkule Line, which is expected to open by 2022. The Buca Branch Railway () was a short long railway that operated in İzmir between 1866 and 1902. The railway was a subsidiary of the Ottoman Railway Company, which formed the railway in 1866 to build a branch line to Buca. Throughout its existence the railway was highly profitable, serving wealthy Levantine business owners who commuted into the city each day.
