Lucius Cary, 14th Viscount Falkland
Lucius Henry Charles Plantagenet Cary, 14th Viscount Falkland (25 January 1905 – 16 March 1984), styled Master of Falkland from 1922 to 1961, was a Scottish peer. The eldest son of Lucius Cary, 13th Viscount Falkland and his wife Ella, Cary was educated at Eton College. On 14 October 1926, Cary married Joan Sylvia Southey. They had two daughters before divorcing in 1933: *Hon. Elizabeth-Ann Bevil Cary (b. 20 August 1927), married Sir William Nelson, 3rd Baronet on 21 November 1945 and had issue *Hon. Lucius Cary, 13th Viscount Falkland
Lucius Plantagenet Cary, 13th Viscount Falkland (23 September 1880 – 24 July 1961), styled Master of Falkland from 1886 to 1922, was a Scottish peer. The eldest son of Byron Cary, 12th Viscount Falkland and his wife Mary, Cary was educated at Eton College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards on 6 December 1899, and served as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion during the Second Boer War. He was promoted lieutenant by augmentation on 1 April 1903. Cary was seconded to the 3rd King's African Rifles and stationed in Nairobi from 1903 to 1905. Lucius Edward William Plantagenet Cary, 15th Viscount of Falkland (born 8 May 1935), styled Master of Falkland from 1961 to 1984, is a British nobleman and politician. Background and education Cary is the eldest of four children, and the only son of Lucius Cary, 14th Viscount of Falkland, and Constance Mary Berry, daughter of Captain Edward Berry. The Viscount of Falkland is the senior viscountcy in the peerage of Scotland, created in 1620 by King James VI. Cary was educated at Wellington College in Berkshire, and was formerly an officer in the Hussars. Political career Cary succeeded his father in the viscountcy in 1984 and sat in the House of Lords with the Social Democratic Party, later joining the Liberal Democrats. Following the removal of the majority of hereditary peers under the House of Lords Act 1999, he was one of the ninety-two elected to remain. Pilot officer (Plt Off officially in the RAF; in the RAAF and RNZAF; formerly P/O in all services, and still often used in the RAF) is the lowest commissioned rank in the Royal Air Force and the air forces of many other Commonwealth countries. Viscount Falkland
Viscount Falkland is a title in the Peerage of Scotland. Referring to the royal burgh of Falkland in Fife, it was created in 1620, by King James VI, for Sir Henry Cary, who was born in Hertfordshire and had no previous connection to Scotland. He was made Lord Cary at the same time, also in the Peerage of Scotland. His son, the second Viscount, was a prominent statesman. The latter's younger son, the fourth Viscount (who succeeded his elder brother), notably served as Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire. His son, the fifth Viscount, represented several constituencies in the House of Commons and held office as First Lord of the Admiralty from 1693 to 1694.
