Long Island is a densely populated island in the southeastern region of the U.S. state of New York, part of the New York metropolitan area. Jimmy Wright (golfer)
Jimmy Wright (born December 1, 1939) is an American professional golfer. Biography Wright was born on a farm in Bentonville, Arkansas. At the age of 10, he moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he spent most of his youth. He started caddying at a local golf course when he was 12 and began playing golf the following year. He shot a 72 on the first 9 holes he ever played. Five years later, on the same par-36 nine holes, he shot an 8-under-par 28. In 1957, he won the State High School Championship. After high school, Wright attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration in January 1962. Wright was an All-American for three years at Oklahoma State (at the time freshmen were not allowed to compete). He was the only sophomore to make the All-American team. Tom Nieporte
Thomas Nieporte (October 21, 1928 – December 21, 2014) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1950s and 1960s. Nieporte grew up in the Cincinnati suburb of North College Hill, Ohio. He attended the Ohio State University and was a distinguished member of the golf team, winning the NCAA Championship in 1951. He was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 1983. Nieporte turned pro in 1953. He played full-time on the PGA Tour for five years, but like most professional golfers of his generation, he spent most of his career earning his living as a club pro. He won three PGA Tour events. The biggest win of his career came in 1967 at the Bob Hope Desert Classic; the Champions Trophy was presented to Nieporte by former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Bob Hope. Mike Joyce (May 2, 1939 – August 28, 2020) was an American professional golfer. Joyce joined the Senior PGA Tour (now Champions Tour) in 1989, winning once, the 1992 GTE Northwest Classic. He played regularly on the Tour from 1989 to 1996 and last appeared in 2001. Joyce's youngest brother Kevin was a member of the United States national basketball team at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Don Reese (born December 7, 1953) is an American professional golfer. Reese was born in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. He played college golf at Troy State University where he was an All-American. He turned professional in 1979. Reese played on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, and Champions Tour while also working as a club professional. On the PGA Tour (1982, 1989–90, 1994–95), his best finish was T-5 at the 1989 Hawaiian Open. On the Nationwide Tour (1990–94, 1997-2002), he won once at the 1991 Ben Hogan Lake City Classic. Jim Albus
James Christian Albus (born June 18, 1940) is an American professional golfer. Albus was born in Staten Island, New York. He attended New Dorp High School, and went on to Bucknell University, where he was a successful baseball player. It was while he was at college that he took up golf, which was unusually late for a future pro. He transferred to UCLA and graduated in 1965. Albus became a golf professional in 1968 and worked as a club professional at courses that included La Tourette Golf Course and Piping Rock Club. He won a number of local and regional tournaments while he was a club professional and played in five U.S. Opens and seven PGA Championships. He was Met PGA Player of the Year in 1981, 1982, 1986 and 1988. Bruce Zabriski (born August 3, 1957) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Nationwide Tour. Zabriski joined the European Tour in 1985 and would play on the Tour until 1987. His best finish came at the Benson & Hedges International Open where he finished in a tie for 6th. He also recorded his best finish on the Order of Merit that year, finishing 103rd. Zabriski joined the PGA Tour in 1988, earning his Tour card through qualifying school. Thomas "Tom or Tommy" McGinnis (November 27, 1947 – June 6, 2019) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. McGinnis was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee and was a member of the golf team from 1967–1969. He turned professional in 1969. McGinnis had 49 starts in PGA Tour events during his regular career; he earned and lost his Tour card 3 times. Bethpage Black Course
The Bethpage Black Course is a public golf course at Bethpage State Park on Long Island, New York. The course was designed by Joseph H. Burbeck and was assited by noted golf architect A. W. Tillinghast. It is the most difficult of Bethpage's five courses, and is known for the warning sign at the first tee, placed in the early 1980s, which reads "The Black Course Is An Extremely Difficult Course Which We Recommend Only For Highly Skilled Golfers."
