These 50 cities have a combined population of 17.5 million, or 37% of the national population. Mayor
In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Depending on the system chosen, a mayor may be the chief executive officer of the municipal government, may simply chair a multi-member governing body with little or no independent power, or may play a solely ceremonial role. Valencia
Valencia ( va, València) is the capital of the autonomous community of Valencia and the third-most populated municipality in Spain, with 791,413 inhabitants. It is also the capital of the province of the same name. José Francisco Hila Vargas (born 1972) is a Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) politician. He was elected to Palma de Mallorca City Hall in 2007, and has been mayor from 2015 to 2017 and again since 2019. Biography Born in the working-class neighbourhood of Son Gotleu, Hila graduated in Economics. In 2007, he was elected to the City Council. He was a deputy mayor to Aina Calvo from 2007 to 2011. In December 2014, Hila succeeded Calvo as lead candidate for the PSOE in Palma, with 63% of the votes. In the elections of June 2015, his party won six seats, while Més per Mallorca and Podemos took five each; they formed a coalition and installed him as mayor, with the agreement to pass the role onto Antoni Noguera of Més halfway through the term in 2017. Francisco de la Torre Prados (born 21 December 1942) is a Spanish People's Party (PP) politician who has been the mayor of Málaga since 2000. He has also been president of the Provincial Deputation of Málaga (1971–1975), a member of the Congress of Deputies (1977–1982) and Senate (2011–2014). Early life and career Born in Málaga, De la Torre graduated in Sociology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, earned a doctorate in Agronomic Engineering from the University of Madrid, and graduated in Regional Development from the University of Rennes in France. Jorge Antonio Azcón Navarro (born 21 November 1973) is a Spanish People's Party (PP) politician who is a city councillor (2000–2007; 2011–) and the mayor (2019–) of Zaragoza. Biography Born in Zaragoza, Azcón graduated in Law from the University of Zaragoza, where he also obtained a master's degree in Urban Planning. He then worked for MRA, a business involved in subsidised housing. He was the leader of the New Generations of the People's Party in the Province of Zaragoza and the region of Aragon.
