''Friday Night Lights'' is an American television drama that aired on NBC and DirecTV (The 101 Network) between 2006 and 2011 based on the book of the same name. The show, set in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas, is about a varsity high school football team. Many of the people in the book have been adapted into similar characters. Cast Main characters * Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) — The varsity football coach of the Dillon Panthers, based on real-life coach Gary Gaines. Like Gaines, Taylor is the new coach who struggles adjusting to the intensity that Dillon shows for football. Taylor is often conflicted with the advice he is given by local supporters of the team. After the team advances to the state tournament at the end of Season 1 under his leadership, Taylor leaves Dillon to accept a higher level job at a college, also in Texas, only to return to Dillon early in Season 2. Brian "Smash" Williams is a fictional character in the NBC/DirecTV(The 101 Network) drama television series '' Friday Night Lights'' portrayed by actor Gaius Charles. He is the starting running back of the Dillon High School Panthers.
