Offshore Racing Congress
The Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) is an international body for the sport of competitive sailing and is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of rating and classification standards used to define offshore, that is marine as opposed to inland, yacht racing handicap categories. Ratings and Classification The ORC was established in 1969 to create a single international handicap standard to combine the two pre-existing dominant handicap standards - that of the Cruising Club of America which covered North and South Americas, and the standard of the Royal Ocean Racing Club for Europe and the Antipodes. The combined ruleset, the International Offshore Rule or IOR, was initially successful. The ORC developed International Measurement System (IMS) in the early 1990s and it was widely used to the early 2000s. This made use of a Velocity prediction program or VPP. Class40
Class40 is a class of monohull sailboat and a yacht primarily used for short handed offshore and coastal racing. The class is administered by International Class40 Association which is recognised by the World Sailing. Background In 2004 former Vendee Globe and Whitbread competitor, Patrice Carpentier, brought together designers, builders and sailors to formulate a new accessible class of shorthanded offshore racing boats. Now with more than 160 boats, the Class has become the most successful offshore racing class. The class is not to be confused with the Open 40 which in many ways led the way to this class. Farr 30 (yacht)
The Farr 30 (formerly Mumm 30) was designed by Farr Yacht Design led by Bruce Farr. The first boat was built by Carrol Marine and first launched in 1995. The class was recognised by the World Sailing from 1997 to 2018. History The International Farr 30 One Design Class Association was formed as the owners association to support the class and promote One Design class sailboat racing amongst owners which led to the class becoming an ISAF Recognised Class. This entitles the class to hold World Championships officially recognized by World Sailing. The boat was originally named the Mumm 30 after its original title sponsor Champagne Mumm. Farr 40
The Farr 40 is a 40-foot one-design sailboat designed by Farr Yacht Design in 1996 following after the Mumm 30. It was originally designed as a one design class but had some compromises in design to rate under the International Measurement System (IMS) rule. The class has held World Sailing class status since 1997. Approximately 140 were built. In 1996, the first Farr 40 One Design was launched at Carroll Marine in Newport, Rhode Island. Although Carroll built the majority of the boats later boats were built by DK Composites and US Watercraft. The Transpac 52 (TP52) is a class of yacht used for competitive 52 Super Series yacht racing, and the Audi MedCup previously, besides the world championship of the class. The class is recognised by the International Sailing Federation which entitles the class to hold an Official World Championships.
