Guggenheim Fellowships
Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Each year, the foundation issues awards in each of two separate competitions: * One open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. * The other to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Latin America and Caribbean competition is currently suspended "while we examine the workings and efficacy of the program. The U.S. and Canadian competition is unaffected by this suspension." The performing arts are excluded, although composers, film directors, and choreographers are eligible. The fellowships are not open to students, only to "advanced professionals in mid-career" such as published authors. Robert Beachy
Robert Beachy (born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico) is associate professor of history at the Underwood International College at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Was raised in Mennonite communities in Puerto Rico and Indiana. He formerly taught at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. Career Beachy specializes in the intellectual and cultural history of Germany and Europe, and is known for his work on the history of sexuality in the Weimar Republic, under the Nazis, and in Germany after the Second World War. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1998; his M.A. in History from the University of Chicago in 1989; and, his B.A. in History from Earlham College, 1988. In 2009, Beachy was named a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for his research on homosexuality in Nazi Germany. John Campbell (philosopher)
John Campbell (born 1956) is Willis S. and Marion Slusser Professor of Philosophy at the University of California in Berkeley, California. He works primarily in philosophy of mind. Education and career Campbell earned a BA at the University of Stirling, UK in 1978; an MA at the University of Calgary, Canada in 1979; and a DPhil from Christ Church, Oxford in 1983 with a thesis under the title ''Spatiotemporal Thinking''. Before moving to Berkeley, Campbell taught at Oxford University for a number of years. He was a Fellow of New College. In 2000 he was awarded the Wilde Professorship of Mental Philosophy. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and its longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018. Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia. Tom E. Burckhardt (born May 2, 1964) is an American artist and painter based in New York City. He is the youngest son of Rudy Burckhardt and therefore a member of the Burckhardt family. He is a recipient of Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, Guggenheim Foundation and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grants. Katherine Brown (born June 21, 1960) is an American politician and attorney who served as the 38th governor of Oregon from 2015 to 2023.
