Greenland ( kl, Kalaallit Nunaat, ; da, Grønland, ) is an island country in North America that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Greenland is the world's largest island. Bibi Chemnitz
Bibi Chemnitz (born 1983) is a Greenlandic fashion designer who is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Raised in Greenland by her Inuit parents, she moved to Denmark when she was 13 and studied fashion design in Herning. In 2006, she and her partner established the Bibi Chemnitz fashion business in Aarhus, moving to Copenhagen in 2012. Inspired by her Greenlandic heritage, her designs for both men and women have featured in international fashion shows and are marketed worldwide. Early life Born in Nuuk on 30 December 1983, Bibi Chemnitz is the daughter of two Native Greenlanders. As a child, she lived with her family in Narsaq, Maniitsoq and Nuuk. When she was 13 she moved to Denmark where she studied fashion design at VIA University College in Herning. Qeqertarsuaq
Qeqertarsuaq () is a port and town in Qeqertalik municipality, located on the south coast of Disko Island on the west coast of Greenland. Founded in 1773, the town is now home to a campus of the University of Copenhagen known as Arctic Station. ''Qeqertarsuaq'' is the Kalaallisut name for Disko Island and is also now used for several other islands on Greenland, including those formerly known as Upernavik and Herbert Island. Qeqertarsuaq means ‘the big island’ in Kalaallisut ( da, den store ø). In 2020, the town had 839 inhabitants. The remainder of the population of the island (less than 50 people) lives in the Kangerluk settlement, a few hours by boat to the northwest. Thue Christiansen
Thue Christiansen (25 February 1940 – 26 June 2022) was a Greenlandic teacher, visual artist, and politician. Christiansen is best known as the designer of the current flag of Greenland, which was adopted on 21 June 1985. A trained teacher, Christiansen was elected to the Inatsisartut for Siumut in 1979 when Greenland was granted home rule. He was the Naalakkersuisut, Greenlandic Minister of Culture and Education from 1979 until 1983. Christiansen died on 26 June 2022, at his home in Hals, Denmark, Hals, Denmark. He was 82.
