Arkansas Head Waters
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked U.S. state, state in the South Central United States. The Cache la Poudre River ( ), also known as the Poudre River, is a river in the state of Colorado in the United States. Name The name of the river () is a corruption of the original Cache à la Poudre, or "cache of powder". It refers to an incident in the 1820s when French trappers, caught by a snowstorm, were forced to bury part of their gunpowder along the banks of the river. Geography Its headwaters are in the Front Range in Larimer County, in the northern part of Rocky Mountain National Park. The main source is Poudre Lake. The river descends eastward in the mountains through the Roosevelt National Forest in Poudre Canyon. It emerges from the foothills north of the city of Fort Collins. It rises in southern Summit County, on the western side of the continental divide in the Ten Mile Range, near Quandary Peak. The Roberts Tunnel is a trans-basin diversion, built by Denver Water in 1962, that diverts water under the Continental Divide from the Colorado River basin into the South Platte River Basin. Blue Creek (Gunnison River Tributary)
Blue Creek is a tributary of the Gunnison River in Gunnison County, Colorado. It forms at the confluence of Little Blue Creek and Big Blue Creek adjacent to the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Alpine Plateau Road (Gunnison County Road 867) in Blue Creek Canyon. Course After it starts at the confluence of little Blue Creek and Big Blue Creek, Blue Creek flows under a bridge on Highway 50, it then flows north along the highway's west side, and then separates from the highway heading north until it eventually empties into Morrow Point Reservoir at the Curecanti Needle. The creek is long. Other Blue Creek is one of the two primary stream inflows to Morrow Point Reservoir (the other one is Curecanti Creek). Its mouth lies within the Curecanti National Recreation Area. The portion of the stream within the recreation area has good fly fishing and provides the best chance of catching fish, but access here is only by boat. Bijou Creek
Bijou Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed March 25, 2011 tributary of the South Platte River in Colorado. The creek flows northeast from elevated terrain in southeastern Adams County to a confluence with the South Platte near Fort Morgan. Bijou Creek is subject to flash floods from time to time. Bijou Creek, originally named Bijeau Creek, was named for Joseph Bijeau, a guide on Stephen Harriman Long's expedition of the Great Plains in 1820. The alluvium that irrigators in the lower Bijou Basin drew water from since 1935 when the first wells were dug is deposited in a shallow channel eroded in Pierre Shale which is flanked on its sides by the Fox Hills Formation. The ground water in the alluvium, for the most part, originates in the flow of Bijou Creek. The area where irrigation occurred, as of 1961, was about 84 square miles, or 53,750 acres. Big Thompson River
The Big Thompson River is a tributary of the South Platte River, approximately 78 miles (123 km) long, in the U.S. state of Colorado.
