''Life or Death'' ( ar, حياة أو موت, Hayat ou maut, transliterated as ''Ba’r al gharam'') is a 1954 Egyptian film directed by Kamal El Sheikh. It was entered into the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Synopsis The film talks about the story of a man who is sick with the heart, so he sends his daughter to come to you with treatment and to cure the one who is in a hurry, but the person who gave his daughter the medicine discovers that this medicine contains a deadly poison because of the wrong composition of the medicine. 1955 Cannes Film Festival
The 8th Cannes Film Festival was held from 26 April to 10 May 1955. The Golden Palm went to the US film '' Marty'' by Delbert Mann. The festival opened with '' Du rififi chez les hommes'' by Jules Dassin and closed with ''Carmen Jones'' by Otto Preminger. Until the 1954 Festival, the whimsical way various prizes were being awarded had drawn much criticism. Youssef Abdallah Wahbi Qotb ( ar, يوسف عبد الله هديب وهبي قطب) (14 July 1902 – 17 October 1982) was an Egyptian stage and film actor and director, a leading star of the 1930s and 1940s and one of the most prominent Egyptian stage actors of any era, who also served on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. He was born to a high state official in Egypt but renounced his family's wealth and traveled to Rome in the 1920s to study theatre. Hussein Mohamed Shafiq ( ar, حسين محمد شفيق, more commonly known by his stage name Hussein Riad ( ar, حسين رياض , (1897–1965) was an Egyptian actor, who mainly played "dad roles". His career spanned about 46 years and he appeared in approximately 320 films, 240 theater plays, and 150 radio and 50 TV plays.
