Libin Cardiovascular Institute Of Alberta
The 'Libin Cardiovascular Institute'' is an entity of Alberta Health Services and the University of Calgary. It connects all cardiovascular research, education and clinical care in Southern Alberta. The Institute coordinates the activities of over 1,500 individuals in Southern Alberta. Of its more than 175 research and clinician members, over 75 are cardiologists, making it the largest heart or cardiovascular institute in Western Canada by that measure. Individuals affiliated with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute have provided significant leadership and input to thCanadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan(CHHS-AP). Alvin G. Libin (born April 22, 1931) is a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. The Calgary-based Libin is President and Chief Executive Officer of Balmon Investments Ltd, a private management services and investment company, with interests primarily in hotels, nursing homes, oil & gas, real estate, and financial services. Personal life Libin's parents, Norman and Ethel (née Shapiro), were Jewish Russian immigrants. In 1953, Libin married the late Mona (Diamond). They had one son, Robert, and three grandchildren, Louis, Eda, and Nora.
