Leine (river)
The Leine (; Old Saxon ''Lagina'') is a river in Thuringia and Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Aller and the Weser and is long. The river's source is located close to the town of Leinefelde in Thuringia. About downriver, the river enters Lower Saxony and runs northwards. Important towns along its course, from upstream to downstream, are Göttingen, Einbeck, Freden, Alfeld, and Gronau, before the river enters Hanover, the largest city on its banks. Downstream some north of Hanover, near Schwarmstedt, the river joins the Aller and reaches the North Sea via the Weser. Its northern (lower) reaches are only navigable today by the smallest commercial carriers, though in the past, it served as an important pre-railway barge transport artery as far upriver as Göttingen. Sarstedt
Sarstedt is a town in the district of Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, Germany. It has approximately 18,500 inhabitants. Sarstedt is situated 20 km south of Hanover and 10 km north of Hildesheim. Sarstedt station is on the Hanoverian Southern Railway and is served by the Hanover S-Bahn. The GEO 600 gravitational wave detector is located nearby. Garbsen
Garbsen () is a town in the district of Hanover, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Leine, approx. 11 km northwest of Hanover. The name Garbsen can be traced back to 1223. Today's 13 city districts have partly developed independently until the city of Garbsen was formed within its current boundaries during the regional reform in 1974. In the course of industrialization and especially after the Second World War, the population of Garbsen and its predecessor municipalities increased significantly. In 1963, the current district Auf der Horst was created as a residential and working class district for up to 10,000 residents. Originally planned by the state capital Hannover, Auf der Horst became an important factor for the independent urban development of Garbsen in the following years. The Innerste is a river in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Leine river and in length. Origin of the name The river name is not related to the German word ''innerste'' meaning innermost. ''Innerste'', in earlier times called the ''Inste'' (1805), ''Inderste'' (1567), ''Indistria'' (1313), ''Entrista'' (1065) and ''Indrista'' (1013), probably goes back to the Indo-Germanic root ''oid'' = ''turbulent, strong''. It may be the name referred to in the name of the battlefield of '' ''Idista''viso'' (16 A.D.). Gande (river)
The Gande is a river of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a right-hand tributary of the River Leine. Course The Gande rises near the town of Lamspringe on the eastern side of the Sackwald in the county of Hildesheim and flows from there southwards between the Sackwald and the Heber ridges. It enters the district of Northeim near (a subdivision of Bad Gandersheim). At Bad Gandersheim it turns west and empties into the Leine at Kreiensen. Rhume
The Rhume is a long river in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Leine. Its source is the karstic spring of Rhume Spring in Rhumspringe, south of the Harz mountain range. The water drains with high pressure from the ground of the funnel-shaped well, known for its turquoise colour. The Rhume then flows in northwesterly direction through the municipalities of Gieboldehausen, Katlenburg-Lindau and Northeim. It finally joins the Leine river west of Northeim. The Garte is a small tributary to the Leine River in Lower Saxony, Germany. The Garte is a long stream that rises to the east of Weißenborn at an elevation of . Towns that it runs through or by include Beienrode, Kerstlingerode, Rittmarshausen (where it is joined by the Bernsroder Bach), Wöllmarshausen, Benniehausen (where the Bischhäuser Bach joins it), Klein Lengden (where the Bramke and Eichbach join it), and Diemarden. The stream joins the Leine River south of Göttingen. With a drop of 151 m, the stream averages a bed slope of 6.6‰. The watershed is . Pattensen () is a town in the district of Hanover, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately south of Hanover. Geography Pattensen is located in the historic landscape Calenberg Land between the Leine and the Deister hills. Elze
Elze () is a town in the district of Hildesheim, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the river Leine, approximately west of Hildesheim. The municipality of Elze also comprises the villages of ''Esbeck, Mehle, Sehlde, Sorsum, Wittenburg'' and ''Wülfingen''. Elze is one of the oldest settlement in the area, as its name stems from la, aula caesaris, a castle of Charlemagne which he had established about 800 in the Saxon estates after his victory over duke Widukind in the Saxon Wars. The emperor also founded a missionary diocese here, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul which became the origin of the Bishopric of Hildesheim.
