Legacy is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located along Calgary's southern boundary with Foothills County, east of Macleod Trail, south of the community of Walden, and west of the Bow River. The Hamlet of Heritage Pointe is located across the city boundary in the MD of Foothills No. 31. Legacy is located within Calgary City Council's Ward 14. Demographics In the City of Calgary's 2016 municipal census, Legacy has a population of 2,359 living in 1,677 dwellings, a change of since recording a population of 1,303 in 2015. Bow River
The Bow River is a river in Alberta, Canada. It begins within the Canadian Rocky Mountains and winds through the Alberta foothills onto the prairies, where it meets the Oldman River, the two then forming the South Saskatchewan River. These waters ultimately flow through the Nelson River into Hudson Bay. The Bow River runs through the city of Calgary, taking in the Elbow River at the historic site of Fort Calgary near downtown. The Bow River pathway, developed along the river's banks, is considered a part of Calgary's self-image. First Nations made varied use of the river for sustenance before settlers of European origin arrived, such as using its valleys in the buffalo hunt. Alberta Provincial Highway No. 2A is the designation of six alternate routes off Highway 2 in Alberta, Canada. In general, these are original sections of Highway 2, such as the southern portion of Macleod Trail in Calgary. They passed through communities before limited-access freeways were built to shorten driving distance, accommodate heavier volumes and to bypass city traffic. Cranston is a master planned residential community in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Cranston contains a wide range of single family and multi family residential as well as commercial property. It has two public elementary schools and one separate board K-9 school, as well as Century Hall - a private Cranston residents recreation facility. Silverado is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located near the southern edge of the city, south of Stoney Trail, east of the equestrian sports facility Spruce Meadows, West of Sheriff King Street and North of 194 Avenue S.W. Silverado is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 13 councillor. Development controversy Prior to the commencement of development of Silverado, the owners of nearby Spruce Meadows pushed for a wetlands development to be established between the residential area and the show-jumping facility. Calgary City Council approved the wetlands proposal in 2004, along with a request that one of the major roads leading into Spruce Meadows not be upgraded to a residential collector street, although Spruce Meadows was unsuccessful in getting the city to increase the setback between Silverado and the facility. Alberta Municipal Censuses, 2016
Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses between April 1 and June 30 inclusive. Due to the concurrency of Statistics Canada conducting the Canada 2016 Census in May 2016, the Government of Alberta offered municipalities the option to alter their 2016 municipal census timeframes to either March 1 through May 31 or May 1 through July 31. Municipalities choose to conduct their own censuses for multiple reasons such as to better inform municipal service planning and provision, to capitalize on per capita based grant funding from higher levels of government, or to simply update their populations since the last federal census. With the dissolution of the villages of Galahad and Strome on January 1, 2016, Alberta had 354 municipalities in 2016. Walden is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located near the southern edge of the city, south of 194 Avenue SE and the neighbourhood of Chaparral. To the east it is bordered by the Bow River Valley, to the south by the neighbourhood of Legacy, and to the west by Macleod Trail. Developed by Genstar, Walden was officially approved by Calgary City Council in July 2007, with construction expected to commence in 2008.
