Lawton–Bronson Community School District
Lawton–Bronson Community School District is a rural public school district in Iowa which has two schools: Lawton–Bronson Elementary School in Bronson and Lawton–Bronson Jr./Sr. High School in Lawton. Almost all of the district is in Woodbury County, with a small part in Plymouth County. The school mascot is the Eagles, and the colors are black and yellow. History The district was established on July 1, 1966, by the merger of the Lawton and Bronson districts; the latter was an elementary-only district. Lawton is a city in Woodbury County, Iowa, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Sioux City metropolitan area. The population was 943 at the time of the 2020 census. History Lawton was platted in 1901. It was named for J. C. Law, an early settler and native of Lawton, Michigan. A post office has been in operation in Lawton since 1902. Woodbury County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 105,941, making it the sixth-most populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Sioux City. Woodbury County is included in the Sioux City metropolitan area. History Originally established in 1851 as Wahkaw County, the Iowa Legislature in 1853 changed the name to Woodbury County in honor of Levi Woodbury (1789–1851), a senator and governor of New Hampshire who served as a Supreme Court justice from 1844 until his death. The first county seat of Wahkaw County was the now-extinct village of Thompsonville; when the Legislature changed the county name to Woodbury, the new county seat became Sergeant's Bluff (now Sergeant Bluff). Plymouth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,698. The county seat is Le Mars. Plymouth County was named after Plymouth, Massachusetts. Plymouth County is part of the Sioux City, IA- NE- SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Plymouth County was formed on January 15, 1851. Settlement began in the county in 1856. In October 1859, the first courthouse was built in Melbourne, formerly located in the southeast quarter of section 34, Plymouth Township, about five to six miles due south of Merrill. Western Valley Activities Conference
The Western Valley Activities Conference is an athletic conference for small high schools in Western Iowa. Formed in 2008 from the merger of the longstanding Maple Valley Conference and Boyer Valley Conference, the league now consists of 9 schools from the old Maple Valley Conference and Siouxland Christian. Current members History The Western Valley Activities Conference was formed in 2008 with the merger of the Maple Valley Conference and the Boyer Valley Conference. The Maple Valley Conference traces its history to 1931 when the conference was founded with Onawa, Mapleton, Moville, Correctionville, Holstein, and Odebolt high schools.
