The Lawrence Batley International was a European Tour golf tournament which was played annually from 1981 to 1987. The first three editions were played at Bingley St Ives, Bradford, the next three at Ryder Cup venue The Belfry and the final edition at Open Championship venue Royal Birkdale. Ian Woosnam
Ian Harold Woosnam (born 2 March 1958) is a Welsh professional golfer. Nicknamed 'Woosie', Woosnam was one of the "Big Five" generation of European golfers, all born within 12 months of one another, all of whom have won majors, and made Europe competitive in the Ryder Cup. His peers in this group were Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, and Sandy Lyle. Woosnam's major championship win was at the 1991 Masters Tournament. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. Brian Waites
Brian J. Waites (born 1 March 1940) is an English professional golfer. Although he turned professional in 1957, he played little top-level golf for the next 20 years, but then has considerable success, winning twice on the European Tour, five times on the Safari Circuit and playing in the 1983 Ryder Cup. After reaching 50 he had further success as a senior, winning the PGA Seniors Championship twice, and winning four times on the European Senior Tour. Professional career Waites turned professional in 1957. He was an assistant professional at Hesketh Golf Club in Southport, becoming the professional at Saltburn Golf Club in Saltburn-by-the-Sea from 1961, before moving to Brough Golf Club on Humberside in 1965. Warren Humphreys
Warren Humphreys (born 1 April 1952) is an English professional golfer. Humphreys was born in Kingston. He had a successful amateur career, winning the 1971 English Amateur, and playing on that year's winning Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team. He turned professional towards the end of 1971. Humphreys made the top one hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit thirteen times, with a best ranking of twentieth in 1973. The 1983 European Tour was the 12th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour and organised by the Professional Golfers' Association. The season was made up of 27 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and some non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Official Money List was won by England's Nick Faldo, who won five tournaments during the season. Changes for 1983 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Timex Open and the Glasgow Golf Classic, and the loss of the Welsh Golf Classic. José Rivero
José Rivero (born 20 September 1955) is a Spanish professional golfer. Career He started his golf career as a caddie and turned professional in 1973. He was a full member of the European Tour from 1983 to 2001 and he won four European Tour events. He made the top fifteen on the Order of Merit five times, including a best of tenth in 1988. Rivero was a member of the first two winning European Ryder Cup teams after the inclusion of Continental European players, at The Belfry in 1985 and Muirfield Village in 1987. He represented Spain in the Alfred Dunhill Cup and the World Cup on many occasions, winning the latter in 1984 in partnership with José María Cañizares. Rivero became eligible for senior golf in September 2005. He played four events on the European Senior Tour that year and placed in the top six in each of them. The 1984 European Tour was the 13th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It was the first year for the tour as an independent entity, having previously been organised by European Tournament Players Division of the Professional Golfers' Association. Rick Hartmann
Richard Hartmann (born c. April 1959) is an American professional golfer. Hartmann turned pro in the early 1980s and subsequently tried out for the PGA Tour several times. However, he was unsuccessful and decided to play in Europe. Hartmann played on the European Tour for 10 years and recorded a number of high finishes. However, the general consensus was that he had "mixed success" as his performance was erratic and he failed to win. In 1994, he quit life as a touring professional and started working as a club pro on Long Island. Hartmann also played on the local club pro circuit, the Met PGA. Hartmann had incredible success on the circuit, winning every significant tournament, often multiple times, and was generally regarded as one of the "finest club pros" in the country during the era. Graham Marsh
Graham Vivian Marsh MBE (born 14 January 1944) is a retired professional golfer who was one of the leading Australian players of his generation. During his career he won more than 70 tournaments around the world, including 10 on the European Tour and 20 on the Japan Golf Tour, plus two senior major championships. Early life Marsh was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He attended the University of Western Australia and Claremont Teachers College before turning professional in 1969.
