Fay Lanphier
Fay Elinora Lanphier (December 12, 1905 – June 21, 1959) was an American model and actress most noted for winning the title of Miss Santa Cruz in 1924 and then Miss California and Miss America in 1925. Early life Lanphier was born in El Dorado, California, the eldest child of six born to Percival Caspar Lanphier and Emily Elenora Olson. Her family later moved to Alameda, California. Lanphier's father died before she was a teenager. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1924 and was saving money to go to business college. In December 1924, Lanphier signed a contract with Max Graf to star in a series of shorts produced on the San Francisco Peninsula. Career Pageantry She was the 1925 Rose Queen. To date, she is the only person to hold both titles at the same time. She is also the first Miss California to become Miss America. Before she was Miss California, she was Miss Santa Cruz 1924. James Lanphier
James Lanphier was an American actor who did a variety of work for Blake Edwards. He portrayed Saloud in the 1963 film ''The Pink Panther'', and also appeared in films such as '' Darling Lili'' (1970) and the television series '' Peter Gunn'' (1958–61). Biography Lanphier was born at Mitchel Field, New York, to Janet Grant Cobb and Thomas George Lanphier Sr. He had two brothers, Thomas Jr. and Charles. Lanphier made his stage debut as a juvenile in an army post drama. He debuted on Broadway as a dancer in ''Mexican Hayride'' in 1944 and played Mr. Atkins in a production of '' Dark of the Moon'' the following year. He began his acting career on American television in 1949. In 1957 Lanphier made his feature film debut in an uncredited role in ''The Deadly Mantis'' (1957). Jeremiah Lanphier
Jeremiah Calvin Lanphier (September 3, 1809 – December 26, 1898) was an American lay missionary in New York City, popularly regarded as having been instrumental in instigating the American religious revival of 1857–58. Early life and conversion Jeremiah Lanphier was born in Coxsackie, New York, the son of Samuel F. Lanphier, a farmer and currier, and Jane Ross Lanphier, whose parents had emigrated from Holland. At sixteen, Lanphier apprenticed as a tailor in Albany and later also studied music there under one George Andrews. In 1833, Lanphier and Andrews became partners as cloth merchants in Lower Manhattan. They entered a highly competitive market for ready-made clothing, and after extending credit in an attempt to attract customers, they went bankrupt in the spring of 1842.
