Lake Orion ( ) is a village in the northern outskirts of Metro Detroit in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 2,973 at the 2010 census. "Lake Orion" can refer to either the village or the much larger Orion Township, of which the village is a part. Lake Orion began as a resort town and over time has incorporated elements of a bedroom community. History Judah Church and Moses (or Samuel) Munson were among the first settlers. Munson, who arrived in 1824, built a sawmill in 1825, and planted the first orchard. Jesse Decker arrived from upstate New York with his wife, Mary, in 1825. Orion Charter Township ( ) is a charter township of Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 39,816 as on July 1, 2019. The official motto of the township and village is "Where living is a vacation". "Lake Orion" is often used to describe both the village and the township. Oxford Township, officially the Charter Township of Oxford, is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 20,526 at the 2010 census. Communities *The village of Oxford is located within the township. Like all villages in Michigan, it is geographically and politically part of the township, and residents pay both village and township taxes. The Charter Township of Oakland is a charter township on the north Oakland County outskirts of Metro Detroit, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is colloquially referred to as "Oakland Township". The population was 16,779 at the 2010 census. Oakland Township is less densely populated than neighboring townships to the west, south, and east; and retains many elements of a rural, wooded residential bedroom community. Independence Township is a charter township of Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 36,686 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Independence Township was first organized in 1834. Stadium Drive Elementary School of the Arts is an elementary school located in Orion Township, Michigan, USA. It is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School, awarded for the 2000-2001 school year. One of seven elementary schools in the Lake Orion Community Schools, Stadium Drive was built in 1972 - around the time when many schools were built in the district - and houses Kindergarten through fifth grades.
