Ladha
Ladha ( ps, لده; ur, لدها) or Lada is a town in South Waziristan, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (formerly in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, now merged with province). Just 10 km north of Ladha is the city of Makeen, while 10 km south of Ladha is the village of Kaniguram, the historical homeland of the 16th-century revolutionary leader Bayazid Pir Roshan. War on terror In November 2009, the Pakistani army launched an attack on Ladha, which killed 30 militants and wounded eight soldiers. Another attack by the Pakistani army killed 37 militants and 5 soldiers. A mine blast on a road in Ladha killed two and injured nine. South Waziristan
South Waziristan District ( ps, سويلي وزیرستان ولسوالۍ, ur, ) was a district in Dera Ismail Khan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before splitting in to Lower South Waziristan District and Upper South Waziristan District and the southern part of Waziristan, a mountainous region of northwest Pakistan, that covers some 11,585 km2 (4,473 mi²). Waziristan comprises the area west and southwest of Peshawar between the Tochi River to the north and the Gomal River to the south. The region was an independent tribal territory from 1893, remaining outside of British-ruled empire and Afghanistan. Tribal raiding into British-ruled territory was a constant problem for the British, requiring frequent punitive expeditions between 1860 and 1945. Troops of the British Raj coined a name for this region "Hell's Door Knocker" in recognition of the fearsome reputation of the local fighters and inhospitable terrain. Kaniguram
Kānīgūram ( ps, کانيګورم) is a town in South Waziristan, Pakistan about 10 km south of the town of Ladha. Located within the heart of Mahsud land in Waziristan, Kaniguram is the principal place associated with the Ormur or Burki tribe. It was the hometown of the sixteenth-century Pashtun revolutionary leader and warrior-poet Bayazid Pir Roshan, who wrote the first known book of Pashto language. According to the 2017 Census, Kaniguram is located in Ladha Tehsil of South Waziristan and has population of 13,809. Today the locals in the town speak Ormuri as well as the Waziristani (Maseedwola) dialect of Pashto. Alamzaib Mahsud
Alamzaib Khan Mahsud ( ps, عالمزېب خان ماسید; ur, عالمزیب خان محسود; also spelled Alamzeb Mehsud) is a Pashtun human rights activist from South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He is one of the founding members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM, formerly known as the Mahsud Tahafuz Movement), and is instrumental in gathering data on missing persons and landmine victims in the merged tribal districts (former Federally Administered Tribal Areas). Personal life and education Alamzaib graduated in chemistry, and completed his master's degree in political science. His maternal grandfather was a member of the Pakistan Army Special Service Group. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan
The Pakistani Taliban (), formally called the Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (Urdu/ ps, , lit=Student Movement of Pakistan, TTP), is an umbrella organization of various Islamist armed militant groups operating along the Afghan–Pakistani border. Formed in 2007 by Baitullah Mehsud, its current leader is Noor Wali Mehsud, who has publicly pledged allegiance to the Afghan Taliban (Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan). The Pakistani Taliban share a common ideology with the Afghan Taliban and have assisted them in the 2001–2021 war, but the two groups have separate operation and command structures. Mulla Powinda
Mulla Powinda ( ps, ملا پوونده) or Mullah Powindah, born Mohiuddin Maseed ( ps, محي الدين ماسيد) (1863–1913), was a religious leader and a freedom fighter from the Pashtun tribe of the Shabi khel Mahsuds, based in Waziristan. He was from Marobi Shabikhel, a village in the present-day Makin Subdivision of South Waziristan, Pakistan. He led a long-standing guerrilla insurgency against the British forces in the late 19th century. Operation Rah-e-Nijat
The Operation Rah-e-Nijat ("Path to Salvation"; ur, آپریشن راہ نجات) was a strategic offensive military operation by the unified command of Pakistan Armed Forces against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and their extremist allies in the South Waziristan area of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas that began on June 19, 2009; a major ground-air offensive was subsequently launched on October 17. It became the integral part of the war in Western fronts which led to the encirclement and destruction of Taliban forces in the region, although the Taliban leadership escaped to lawless areas of neighboring Afghanistan.
