La Jolla Village Square
La Jolla Village Square is a retail power center with a collection of mostly big box retailers. Before 1992, was an enclosed upscale regional shopping mall, mall with department store anchors and an adjacent "convenience center" (or strip mall) portion. It is located in the La Jolla Village, San Diego, La Jolla Village neighborhood of San Diego just south of University of California, San Diego, UC San Diego (UCSD) and about one mile west of Westfield UTC, with which it used to compete as an upscale regional mall. It is across the street from "The Shops at La Jolla Village", whose tenants include Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, and CVS Pharmacy. La Jolla Village is a mixed residential/business neighborhood in the coastal San Diego community of La Jolla. La Jolla Village Square and The Shops at La Jolla Village are in the center of the neighborhood and contain a variety of stores, restaurants, apartments, a post office and two movie theaters. The May Department Stores Company was an American department store holding company, formerly headquartered in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded in Leadville, Colorado, by David May in 1877, moving to St. Louis in 1905. After many changes in the retail industry, the company merged with Federated Department Stores (now Macy's, Inc.) in 2005. This company was only a holding company that bought, sold, and merged regional department stores, such as Foley's and L.S. Ayres. Bullocks Wilshire, located at 3050 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is a Art Deco building. The building opened in September 1929 as a luxury department store for owner John G. Bullock (owner of the more mainstream Bullock's in Downtown Los Angeles).
