Lütfi Doğan (politician, Born 1930)
Lütfi Doğan (1930 – 4 December 2023) was a Turkish theologian and politician. A member of the National Salvation Party, the Welfare Party, and the Felicity Party, he served as president of the Directorate of Religious Affairs from 1968 to 1972, the Senate from 1973 to 1980, and the Grand National Assembly from 1991 to 1999. 1995 Turkish General Election
General elections were held in Turkey on Sunday 24 December 1995, triggered by the newly re-established Republican People's Party's (CHP) withdrawal from a coalition government with the True Path Party (DYP). The coalition had been in government for four years, having been formed by the Social Democratic Populist Party (Turkey), Social Democratic Populist Party, the CHP's predecessor. The elections inaugurated a 550-member parliament, its largest membership. The religious Welfare Party (RP) had the largest membership but not a majority standing in the body. The Democratic Left Party (Turkey), Democratic Left Party (DSP) also made significant gains at the expense of the CHP, which barely crossed the election barrier. Anadolu Agency (, ; abbreviated AA) is a state-run news agency headquartered in Ankara, Turkey. History The Anadolu Agency was founded in 1920 during the Turkish War of Independence by the order of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. As the Empire's capital – Constantinople – was under the Ottoman sultans' control, all newspapers were also under the sultan's rule along with British occupiers, and it was necessary for the revolutionary government to establish a communication and news network for Anatolia and Rumelia. Journalist Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu and writer Halide Edip, fleeing the occupied capital, met in Geyve and concluded that a new Turkish press agency was needed. NTV is a Turkish free-to-air nationwide television news channel owned by Doğuş Media Group. It was partnered with MSNBC between May 2000 and 2014. Besides domestic and international news, the channel's programming includes documentaries, as well as programs on finance, arts and culture, lifestyle, and sports.
