Lü Yue (cinematographer)
Lü Yue (, born December 1957) is a Chinese people, Chinese cinematographer and film director. Early life In December 1957, Lu was born in Tianjin, China. Career Lü is today among the most important cinematographers of recent Chinese cinema, and is particularly well known for his collaborations with director Zhang Yimou with whom he served as director of photography in three films. Lü was nominated for an Academy Awards, Academy Award for best cinematographer for Zhang's film ''Shanghai Triad''. He has also served as cinematographer for other Fifth Generation directors such as Tian Zhuangzhuang (for 1985's ''On the Hunting Ground'') as well as for older directors, such as Huang Shuqin (for 1994's ''A Soul Haunted by Painting''). More recently he served as cinematographer for actress Joan Chen's directorial effort, ''Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl'', a film in which he also played a small part as the titular character's father. Lü (surname)
Lü () is the pinyin (Lǚ with the Tone (linguistics), tone diacritic) and Wade–Giles romanisation of a Chinese surname, most commonly (Simplified Chinese characters, simplified Chinese) and (Traditional Chinese characters, traditional Chinese). Romanization Lü is the standard pinyin spelling of the Chinese character 吕/呂. However, when input of the Umlaut (diacritic), umlaut is not possible, the surname is commonly romanized as Lu or Lv (v being the pinyin input shorthand for ü). On 31 October 2011, the National Standardization Committee of China issued ''The Chinese phonetic alphabet spelling rules for Chinese names'', which stipulates that Lü should be spelled Lyu in such situation. Huang Shuqin (9 September 1939 – 21 April 2022) was a Chinese film director known for her film ''Woman, Demon, Human'' (1987). ''Keep Cool'' () is a 1997 Chinese black comedy film directed by Zhang Yimou and adapted from the novel ''Evening Papers News'' by Shu Ping. The film, which is about a bookseller in love in 1990s Beijing, marked a move away from Zhang's earlier period pictures to a more realistic cinéma vérité-like era in his career that also saw him make '' Happy Times'' (2000) and '' Not One Less'' (1999). ''To Live'', (活着, ''Huózhe'') is a 1994 Chinese drama directed by Zhang Yimou and adapted from Yu Hua’s 1993 novel. The film spans the 1940s–1970s, tracing the Xu family’s survival through the Chinese civil war, Great Leap Forward, and Cultural Revolution. Yim Ho
Yim Ho (Chinese: 嚴浩) is a Hong Kong director most active in the 1980s, and a leader of the Hong Kong New Wave. He began his career making television programs for RTHK, then became a film director in 1980. One of his most critically acclaimed works was ''Homecoming'' (1984). This film was different from other films of that period in that it presents certain emotions and sympathies towards the relationship between Mainland China and Hong Kong (the Sino-British Joint Declaration was signed the same year ''Homecoming'' was released). The film brings together two very well known actresses, Josephine Koo and Siqin Gaowa. Anita Mui's theme song with the same title as the film has also been a popular cantopop song.
