Lê Hồng Phong High School For The Gifted
Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted (; formerly Petrus Ký High School) is a highly selective high school in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam. Established in 1927, the school is one of the oldest high schools still operating in Vietnam. History Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted was the third high school founded in Saigon by French colonizers, after the Collège Chasseloup-Laubat (now Le Quy Don High School) and Collège de Jeunes Filles Indigènes (now Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai High School). In 1925, Architect Ernest Hebrard was commissioned to design the school in Chợ Quán. On 28 November 1927, a temporary branch of Collège Chasseloup-Laubat, called Collège de Cochinchine, was founded in Chợ Quán for native students. District 5, Ho Chi Minh City
District 5 () is an urban district (''quận'') of Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. The Chinese community accounts for a significant population in this district. There are several hospitals, high schools and universities in this district. As of 2010 the district had a population of 174,154 people. The district covers an area of 4.27 km2. There were 15 wards in District 5, from Ward 1 to Ward 15. But since 2025, District 5 reduced the wards by merged small wards into bigger wards, only 10 wards of 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Lê Hồng Phong
Lê Hồng Phong (6 September 1902 – 6 September 1942) was the second leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV); he led the party through the office of General Secretary of the Overseas Executive Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party.''Vietnamese Royal Exile in Japan'' Page 114 The Overseas Executive Committee was the only body of the CPV left intact after increased repression by the French authorities in Indochina. III Corps (South Vietnam)
III Corps () was a corps of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the army of the nation state of South Vietnam that existed from 1955 to 1975. It was one of four corps in the ARVN, and oversaw the region of the country surrounding the capital Saigon. III Corps was activated in September 1959 and controlled the country south of Phan Thiet excluding Saigon which was controlled by the Capital Military District (CMD). In 1962, President Ngô Đình Diệm decided to split the Corps into two, the former III Corps area being reduced in size to cover the area northeast of Saigon and the newly created IV Corps (South Vietnam), IV Corps taking over the west and southwest. Đỗ Cao Trí
Lieutenant General Đỗ Cao Trí (20 November 1929 – 23 February 1971) was a general in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) known for his fighting prowess and flamboyant style. Trí started out in the French Army before transferring to the Vietnamese National Army and the ARVN. Under President Ngô Đình Diệm, Trí was the commander of I Corps where he was noted for harsh crackdowns on Buddhist civil rights demonstrations against the Diệm government. Trí later participated in the November 1963 coup which resulted in the assassination of Diệm on 2 November 1963. Years later, Trí was exiled by Nguyễn Cao Kỳ, the most powerful member of the junta, but when Nguyễn Văn Thiệu came to power, he was called back to command III Corps. Trần Đại Nghĩa (13 September 1913 – 9 August 1997) was a Vietnamese scientist, military engineer, and prominent figure in the defense industry of Vietnam. He held the rank of major-general and was recognized as both a military officer and an academician. He was awarded the Order of Ho Chi Minh and honored as a Hero of Labor. He was also elected as an Academician of the former USSR Academy of Sciences.
