Länsimäki
Länsimäki () is a city district in Vantaa, Finland. It is located in southeastern Vantaa, in the Hakunila major region. It is bordered to the north by national road 7, the west by the district of Rajakylä, the east by the district of Länsisalmi, and the south by the Helsinki district of Mellunmäki. The population of Länsimäki is 5,675 (1.1.2014). Länsimäki is known for its historical farmland and World War I-era fortifications. History The buildings of Länsimäki were constructed on land bought from the Westerkulla estate, which has existed on the grounds since the 1630s. The estate was formed through the combination of four farms, and though its original manor was destroyed in a conflagration in 1826, its land and reconstructed manor exist to this day. Hakunila (; , ), is a district and major region of the municipality of Vantaa, Finland, located within the eastern part of the city. The district has a population of 11,238 and a population density of . The district is bordered to the west by Lahdenväylä (a constituent of the National road 4 ( E75)), to the south by the Ring III () beltway, to the east by the districts of Ojanko and Sotunki, and to the north by the district of Itä-Hakkila. Mellunmäki () (Slang: ''Meltsi'') has been a quarter of eastern Helsinki, Finland since 1946. Serious construction of Mellunmäki began in 1950 and the area was originally designed for 7,000 residents. Today in 2023 there are almost 9,000 people living in the area. Mellunmäki provides several essential services such as four grocery stores, three kiosks, four hairdressers, two physiotherapists, three restaurants, a 24/7 gym, and two nursing homes. More services can be found one metro station away in Kontula Kontula or in Itäkeskus (Itis) shopping mall three metro stations away. The metro station of Mellunmäki, the last stop on the line, is the world's northernmost metro station.
