Lycksalighetens ö
''Lycksalighetens ö'' (The Isle of Bliss) is a Swedish-language opera in four acts by Hilding Rosenberg; the libretto by the composer, is based on the 1823 play of the same name by Per Daniel Amadeus Atterbom. Atterbom's work – his most extensive piece of writing – is based on the 1690 fairy tale "" by Madame d'Aulnoy which Atterbom follows closely, but added his own layer of allegory on enjoying bliss for its own sake. Poetry which only touches the senses, cannot satisfy nobler souls yearning for eternal life and happiness (such as King Astolf). Written during the Second World War, it was first performed at the Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm, on 1 February 1945 and was revived several times in the following years. In 2002 Norrlands Opera presented a production of a slightly abridged version of the score in Umeå conducted by Kristjan Järvi, of which recorded performances were issued by .Sofia Nyblom. Hilding Constantin Rosenberg (June 21, 1892 – May 18, 1985)Lyne Peter H. Rosenberg, Hilding (Constantin). In: ''The New Grove Dictionary of Opera''. He is commonly regarded as the first Swedish modernist composer, and one of the most influential figures in 20th-century classical music in Sweden. In 1915 he began studying at the Stockholm Conservatory under Ernst Ellberg. Later teachers included Wilhelm Stenhammar (counterpoint) and Hermann Scherchen (conducting). Hyperborea
In Greek mythology, the Hyperboreans (, ; ) were a mythical people who lived in the far northern part of the Ecumene, known world. A cloak of invisibility is an item that prevents the wearer from being seen. In folklore, mythology and fairy tales, a cloak of invisibility appears either as a magical item used by duplicitous characters or an item worn by a hero to fulfill a quest. It is a common theme in Welsh mythology and Germanic folklore, and may originate with the cap of invisibility seen in ancient Greek myths. A west wind is a wind that originates in the west and blows in an eastward direction. A bass is a type of classical male singing voice and has the lowest vocal range of all voice types. According to '' The New Grove Dictionary of Opera'', a bass is typically classified as having a vocal range extending from around the second E below middle C to the E above middle C (i.e., E2–E4). Its tessitura, or comfortable range, is normally defined by the outermost lines of the bass clef. Categories of bass voices vary according to national style and classification system. Folke Jonsson
Folke Henry Jonsson (9 June 1904 in Ängelholm Sweden - 7 December 1981 in Sollentuna) was a Swedish opera singer who sang leading bass roles primarily at the Royal Swedish Opera and in other Scandinavian opera houses for many years. He also appeared as one of the priests in Ingmar Bergman's film ''The Magic Flute'' (''Trollflöjten'') and as the Herald in Roberto Rossellini's film ''Giovanna d'Arco al rogo''. Gertrud Pålson-Wettergren (17 February 1897 – 26 November 1991) was a Swedish mezzo-soprano. She was hired at Royal Swedish Opera between 1922 and 1948. On 20 December 1935 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, Metropolitan as Amneris in ''Aida'' opposite Elisabeth Rethberg, Giovanni Martinelli, John Charles Thomas and Ezio Pinza. Her roles there included Brangäne in ''Tristan und Isolde'', Venus in ''Tannhäuser (opera), Tannhäuser'', Carmen which she sang in Swedish replacing Rosa Ponselle in a performance, and opened the 1936/37 season with ''Samson et Dalila''.
