Luis Ortiz Flores (born November 5, 1965, in Humacao) is a Puerto Rican former boxer. Amateur career Ortiz had an award-winning amateur career, which led him to represent Puerto Rico in the 1984 Los Angeles summer Olympics. Ortiz at first wasn't very well known in Puerto Rico. Within days after he started competing in the Olympics, that changed, as he began to win bouts. When he secured a bronze medal at the games, he became a nationally known figure, because Puerto Rico had only had two other medalists in their Olympic history, Juan Evangelista Venegas (1948, bronze, boxing) and Orlando Maldonado (1976, bronze, boxing). Luis Ortiz (born 29 March 1979) is a Cuban professional boxer. He held the WBA interim heavyweight title from 2015 to 2016, and challenged twice for the WBC heavyweight title in 2018 and 2019. Luis Alberto Ortiz (born May 25, 1970) is a Dominican professional baseball coach and former third baseman who currently serves as the special assistant to player development and hitting for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). Ortiz played in MLB (MLB) from 1993 to 1996 for the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers. Playing career Ortiz played three seasons at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 8th round of the 1991 MLB draft. Ortiz played in minor league systems of the Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Montreal Expos and St. Louis Cardinals from 1991 to 2004. Luis Ortiz a.k.a. "Perico" (born December 26, 1949) is a trumpet player, composer, musical arranger and producer. Early years Ortiz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the capital city of the island. He was raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Santurce, a sector of San Juan. His family's love of music had influenced him before he was old enough to attend school.
