Luis García (weightlifter)
Luis Alberto García Brito (born 19 April 1995 in Santo Domingo) is a Dominican Olympic weightlifter. He represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Career García won two silver medals in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games hel in Veracruz, Mexico, taking part in the 56 kg category. In his participation in the 2015 Pan American Games he won the 56 kg category bronze medal, lifting 115 kg in snatch, 141 kg in clean and jerk and a total of 256 kg. He won three gold medals in the 2015 Pan American Junior Championships in the 56 kg category. He won the snatch bronze medal in the 56 kg category of the 2016 Pan American Championships. Weightlifting At The 2015 Pan American Games – Men's 56 Kg
The men's 56 kg competition of the weightlifting events at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, was held on July 11 at the Oshawa Sports Centre. The defending champion was Sergio Álvarez from Cuba. Each lifter performed in both the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The athlete received three attempts in each of the two lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted. The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade was to be officially branded as the FISU World University Games.
