Ciego de Ávila () is a city in the central part of Cuba and the capital of Ciego de Ávila Province. The capital city has a population of about 156,322 and the province 430,507. Carlos Daniel Albornoz Cabrera (born 26 December 2000) is a Cuban chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE in 2019. As of August 2023, he is ranked third in Cuba. Career In 2018, he won the 30th Carlos Torre Memorial, finishing with 7/9 points and beating Lelys Stanley Martinez Duany, Yuri González Vidal, and Evgeny Shtembuliak on tie-break. Jonas Buhl Bjerre (born 26 June 2004) is a Danish chess grandmaster. Biography In 2015, Jonas Buhl Bjerre won the Nordic Youth Chess Championship in the group E (for players born in 2004 and 2005). The next year he won the group D. Bjerre won a gold medal at the 2017 European Youth Chess Championships, held in Mamaia, in the U14 category. The next year, in Riga, he took the bronze medal in the same division. In July 2018, Bjerre was awarded the title of international master by FIDE. Alexandr Hilário Takeda Sakai dos Santos Fier (born 11 March 1988) is a Brazilian chess grandmaster. He competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2023. Career Fier won five gold medals at the Pan American Youth Chess Festival: in the Under 10 division in 1996 and 1997, the Under 12 in 2000, the Under 14 in 2002 and Under 18 in 2005. The Chess World Cup 2023 was a 206-player single-elimination chess tournament that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 30 July to 24 August 2023. It was the 10th edition of the Chess World Cup. The winner, runner-up and third-place finisher of the tournament (Magnus Carlsen, R Praggnanandhaa and Fabiano Caruana) earned the right to the play in the 2024 Candidates Tournament.
