Lucian Iulian Sânmărtean (born 13 March 1980) is a Romanian former professional association football, footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or a winger (association football), winger, currently he is the assistant coach of the Romania national under-21 football team, Romania national under-21 team. Regarded by coach Ioan Sabău as the country's most talented player after Gheorghe Hagi, he was awarded Romanian Footballer of the Year in 2014. Sânmărtean was often praised for his exceptional passing and uncommon dribbling ability, however much of his career was marked by injuries. Gheorghe Hagi
Gheorghe Hagi (; born 5 February 1965) is a Romanian professional football manager and former player, who is currently the owner of Liga I club Farul Constanța. Deployed as an attacking midfielder, Hagi was considered one of the best players in the world during the 1980s and '90s, and is regarded by many as the greatest Romanian footballer of all time. Fans of Turkish club Galatasaray, with whom Hagi ended his career, called him (" heCommander"), while he was known as ("The King") to Romanian supporters. Dănuț Lupu (born 27 February 1967) is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder. Club career Dănuț Lupu was born on 27 February 1967 in Galați, Romania, starting as a child to play football and ice hockey simultaneously until the age of 14, when he decided to concentrate exclusively on his football career. He started to play professional football in 1985 at Dunărea Galați in the Romanian second league. In 1987 he was transferred at Dinamo București where he was wanted by coach Mircea Lucescu, playing his first Divizia A match on 8 March 1987 which ended with a 2–0 win against FC Brașov. Doru Nicolae
Doru Nicolae (born 22 March 1952) is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as a forward. He was one of few Romanian footballers who was transferred in a foreign country during the communist regime. Nicolae played seven games at international level for Romania. Constantin Schumacher (born 8 May 1976) is a Romanian football manager and former midfielder, currently in charge of Liga III club Minaur Baia Mare. Club career Constantin Schumacher started his football career at CSȘ Fălticeni, a youth club in his neighbourhood. He signed in 1992 with Foresta Fălticeni but moved, after only a season, to another Divizia B team, more specifically FC Argeş Piteşti. At the end of the season, his team promoted and he played 5 seasons for Argeș in Liga 1. Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1 and officially known as SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Romania and the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation from and to Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final (competition), final. The Cupa Ligii () was Romania's secondary club football tournament. Like the Cupa României, it was played on a knockout (single elimination) basis. History It is unclear when the competition was first created, as there are no official recordings. It started in 1994, but there may already have been an edition as early as 1978. Cupa Ligii was meant to shorten the break between the end of the league season and the start of a major international competition. The competition under the name of ''Samsung Cup'' was Gheorghe Copos' idea and was held at the end of the 1993-94 season with the 18 teams of the Romanian first division and Rapid Bucharest being the winner and received a financial reward of $100,000.
