Lower Light, South Australia
Lower Light is a township adjacent to Port Wakefield Road in South Australia's lower Mid North. The township of Port Prime was surveyed on the coast of Gulf St Vincent in 1880, but little remains of that town now, and it is included as part of the bounded locality of Lower Light. Lower Light is named for the lower Light River estuary into Gulf St Vincent directly south of the settlement. The Light River (Kaurna: ''Yarralinka''), commonly called the River Light, is a seasonal and significant river in the Mid North region of the Australian state of South Australia named for early surveyor William Light. The River Light has given its name to the region of the state spanning the mid and lower part of the watercourse, which doesn't dry up over summer. Mid North
The Mid North is a region of South Australia, north of the Adelaide Plains and south of the Far North and the outback. It is generally accepted to extend from Spencer Gulf east to the Barrier Highway, including the coastal plain, the southern part of the Flinders Ranges, and the northern part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The Temperate Grassland of South Australia cover most of the area. History The main Indigenous group in the area are the Ngadjuri people. During the early colonial era, particularly in the 1850s and 1860s, disputes and conflicts occurred between settlers and the Aboriginal people. The Ngadjuri people now hold native title rights over the area. The extreme south west of the Mid North region is a part of the traditional lands of the Kaurna people. Port Wakefield Highway (and its southern section as Port Wakefield Road) is an important South Australian highway, connecting Adelaide to the Yorke Peninsula, Port Augusta, northern and western South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. It is designated National Highway A1 and a part of the National Highway. It is named after Port Wakefield, the first government town north of Adelaide. Thompson Beach, South Australia
Thompson Beach is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the eastern coastline of Gulf St Vincent about north of the Adelaide city centre. Thompson Beach started as a sub-division in 1980 with boundaries being created in June 1997. Land use with the locality is principally residential with built development being of a ‘low density’. Thompson Beach is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Narungga, and the local government area of the Adelaide Plains Council. Crabbing Thompson Beach is particularly known for its blue swimmer crabs, with the prime season being from October to April. Narungga is a single-member Electoral districts of South Australia, electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was created by the redistribution of 2016, and was contested for the first time at the 2018 South Australian state election, 2018 state election. It is named for the Narungga people, who are the traditional owners of the lands in most of the electorate. Gulf St Vincent
Gulf St Vincent, sometimes referred to as St Vincent Gulf, St Vincent's Gulf or Gulf of St Vincent, is the eastern of two large inlets of water on the southern coast of Australia, in the state of South Australia, the other being the larger Spencer Gulf, from which it is separated by Yorke Peninsula. Middle Beach is a small town in South Australia located about northwest of the Adelaide city centre in the State of Southern Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Plains Council. As of 2021, the population of Middle Beach was 94. Demographics The 2006 Census by the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 366 persons on Middle Beach on census night. Of these, 55.2% were male and 44.8% were female. The majority of residents (66.1%) are of Australian birth, with other common census responses being England (4.6%) and Netherlands (3.0%).
