Lovrenc Košir
Lovrenc Košir, also Laurenz Koschier (29 July 1804 – 7 August 1879) was a Slovenian accountant and civil servant in the Austrian Empire, who worked in Ljubljana. He is notable as being one of the claimants to the title of the inventor of the postage stamp, besides Rowland Hill and James Chalmers. His claim was widely supported in Austria and Yugoslavia, and he was recognized as undisputed "conceptual inventor" of postage stamps in those two countries. Today, those claims are controversial and he is not seen as undisputed inventor any more, as there is evidence that his claims were based on misconstructions. Biography Lovrenc Košir was born in Spodnja Luša, Carniola and baptized ''Laurentius Koschier''. The Slovenized spelling of his name, ''Lovrenc Košir'', appeared in print by 1937. Lovrenc Lavtižar (December 11, 1820 – December 3, 1858), also known as Lawrence Lautishar,Walling, Regis M., & N. Daniel N. Rupp (eds.). 1990. ''The Diary of Bishop Frederic Baraga: First Bishop of Marquette, Michigan.'' Detroit: Wayne State University Press, pp. 59-60. was a Slovene missionary in Minnesota. Biography Lavtižar was born in the village of Srednji Vrh in Upper Carniola and baptized ''Lorenz Lautischar''. He was ordained on August 3, 1845 in Ljubljana,''Acta et Dicta'', vol. 5. 1917. St. Paul, MN: Catholic Historical Society of St. Paul, p. 240. after which he worked in Trebelno and Dobrova. In 1854 he traveled as a missionary to the Native American tribes in Michigan, where he worked with Frederic Baraga and Ignatius Mrak in L'Arbre Croche (now Harbor Springs). Francis Xavier Pierz invited him to Minnesota in 1857, where he was assigned to the Red Lake Indian Reservation. Lovrenc Na Pohorju
Lovrenc na Pohorju (; or ''Sankt Lorenzen ob Marburg'') is a settlement in northeastern Slovenia. It lies in the Pohorje Hills to the west of Maribor. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Styria, Styria. It is now included in the Drava Statistical Region. It is the seat of the Municipality of Lovrenc na Pohorju. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''Sveti Lovrenc na Pohorju'' (literally, 'Saint Lawrence on Pohorje') to ''Lovrenc na Pohorju'' (literally, 'Lawrence on Pohorje') in 1952. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms. Churches The parish church from which the settlement gets its name is dedicated to Lawrence of Rome, Saint Lawrence and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor.
