Lourinhã (parish)
Lourinhã () is a municipality in the District of Lisbon and in the portuguese Oeste region. The population in 2011 was 25,735, in an area of 147.17 km2. The seat of the municipality is the town of Lourinhã, with a population of 8,800 inhabitants. The present Mayor is João Duarte, elected by the Socialist Party. History The name Lourinhã possibly originated in the period of Roman domination, when a villa was located in the area. The origin of the medieval village is linked to ''Jordan'', a French knight who took part in the successful Siege of Lisbon in 1147. King Afonso Henriques granted Jordan the region of Lourinhã as fief and allowed him to grant a foral (letter of feudal rights) to its settlers in 1160. The name Lourinhã may be related to the origin of its feudal lord, since Jordan was from the Loire region in France. Oeste (intermunicipal Community)
Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste (; in English: Intermunicipal Community of the West) is an administrative division of Portugal, located on the country's West and Tagus Valley. The population in 2011 was 362,540, in an area of . Caldas da Rainha serves as the seat of Oeste. The law establishing the framework for intermunicipal communities and metropolitan areas was approved by the Assembly of the Republic (Assembleia da República) on 27 August 2008. On 25 November 2008, the Associação de Municípios do Oeste (Association of Municipalities of the West), by the approval of the municipal assemblies ('' assembleias municipais'') of each of its constituent municipalities, converted itself into the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste. Sancho I Of Portugal
Sancho I (born ; Coimbra, 11 November 115426 March 1211) also referred to as Sancho the Populator (), was King of Portugal from 1185 until his death in 1211. He was the second king of Portugal. Sancho was the second but only surviving legitimate son and fifth child of Afonso I of Portugal by his wife, Maud of Savoy. Sancho succeeded his father and was crowned in Coimbra when he was 31 years old on 9 December 1185. He used the title King of Silves from 1189 until he lost the territory to Almohad control in 1191. Museu Da Lourinhã
Museu da Lourinhã, also known as the Lourinhã Museum, is a museum in the town of Lourinhã, west Portugal. It was founded in 1984 by GEAL - Grupo de Etnologia e Arqueologia da Lourinhã (Lourinhã's Group of Ethnology and Archeology). The current president of the Direction Board is Margarida Nobre. The museum has very complete exhibits of archaeology and ethnology, but the main focus of the museum is the palaeontology hall, which presents holotypes and cast of famous Portuguese dinosaurs recovered from the Late Jurassic Lourinhã Formation. One of the most famous findings exposed is theropod nest found at the beach of Paimogo, which contains eggs with embryos inside, probably belonging to ''Lourinhanosaurus''. Lourinhã Formation
The Lourinhã Formation () is a fossil-rich geological formation in western Portugal, named for the municipality of Lourinhã. The formation is mostly Late Jurassic in age (Kimmeridgian/Tithonian), with the top of the formation extending into the earliest Cretaceous (Berriasian). It is notable for containing a fauna especially similar to that of the Morrison Formation in the United States and a lesser extent to the Tendaguru Formation in Tanzania. There are also similarities to the nearby Villar del Arzobispo Formation and Alcobaça Formation. Besides the fossil bones, Lourinhã Formation is well known for the fossil tracks and fossilized dinosaur eggs.
