Louis Philip, Count Palatine Of Simmern-Kaiserslautern
Louis Philip (German: Ludwig Philipp) (23 November 1602 – 6 January 1655) was the Count Palatine of Simmern-Kaiserslautern from 1610 until 1655. Philip acted as Administrator of the Electoral Palatinate between 1632 and 1648. Philip was born in Heidelberg, as the youngest son of Frederick IV, Elector Palatine and Countess Louise Juliana of Nassau, herself the eldest daughter of William the Silent and his third spouse Charlotte de Bourbon-Montpensier. After his father's death in 1610, Louis Philip inherited his territories around Simmern, Kaiserslautern and Sponheim. Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine
Charles I Louis (; 22 December 1617 – 28 August 1680) was Elector Palatine from 1648 until his death. He was the second son of Frederick V of the Palatinate, the "Winter King" of Bohemia, and the British princess Elizabeth Stuart. After living the first half of his life in exile during the German Thirty Years' War and the English Civil War, in 1649 Charles Louis reclaimed his father's title of Elector Palatine, along with most of his former territories. Stuart and British politics Charles Louis was baptised in March 1618 in the presence of the Prince of Sedan and Albertus Morton, who was the representative of the Prince of Wales. The House of Palatinate-Simmern () was a Germany, German-Bavaria, Bavarian cadet branch of the House of Wittelsbach. The house was one of the collateral lineages of the Electoral Palatinate, Palatinate. It became the main branch in 1559. The Palatinate line of the House of Wittelsbach was divided into four lines after the death of Rupert of Germany, Rupert III in 1410, including the line of Palatinate-Simmern with its capital in Simmern. This line became extinct in 1685 with the death of Charles II, Elector Palatine, Charles II. The House of Palatinate-Neuburg line inherited the Electorate. The founder of the Simmern line, Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken is also the founder of the cadet branch House of Palatinate-Zweibrücken and its cadet branches. Louis Henry (German: Ludwig Heinrich) (11 October 1640 - 3 January 1674) was the Count Palatine of Simmern-Kaiserslautern from 1653 until 1673. Life Louis Henry was born in 1640 as the only surviving son of Louis Philip, Count Palatine of Simmern-Kaiserslautern. He succeeded his father in 1655, and was under the regency of his mother, Marie Eleonore von Brandenburg, till 1658. He retired from ruling in 1673. He died less than a year later, and was buried in the St-Stephan's Church in Simmern. George III of Brieg (; Brzeg, 4 September 1611 – Brzeg, 4 July 1664), was a Duke of Brzeg since 1633 (as administrator; in 1639 he took formally the title, together with his brothers until 1654) and Legnica-Wołów during 1653-1654 (with his brothers). Joachim Frederick (27 January 1546 – 18 July 1608), of the House of Hohenzollern, was Prince-elector of the Margraviate of Brandenburg from 1598 until his death. Marie Eleonore von Brandenburg (1607-1675) was a princess of Brandenburg, Countess Palatine and from 1655 to 1658, regent of Simmern. Biography Marie Eleonore was the only child of Elector Joachim Frederick of Brandenburg from his second marriage to Eleanor of Prussia, daughter of Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia. Orphaned as an infant, she grew up with her uncle Christian, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. On 4 December 1631 she married Count Palatine Ludwig Philipp von Simmern (1602–1655), a brother of the Bohemian Winter King Frederick V of the Palatinate, in Cölln. In the spring of 1632, after the liberation by the Swedes, the couple was able to move to the Palatinate. Ludwig Philipp acted as the administrator of the Electoral Palatinate, but was expelled again in 1635 by imperial troops.
